Are you a working single mom in NEPA? Do you know a single mom who lives in Luzerne, Lackawanna, Wyoming, Pike, Monroe, Wayne and Susquehanna County, who could use a little extra boost of encouragement and love this holiday season?
We want to be part of that!
The passion and purpose of this community project is to provide single moms who work in the Northeastern Pennsylvania region who fall into the 'gap of lacking a meaningful social support system and often lack financial resources. The working single mom often makes too much money to qualify for social service assistance and subsidy programs which leaves her struggling financially for all the extras typical to the holiday season.
It is very common that single moms may also be a primary caregiver for a family member and/or child with special needs making life even more difficult. She may have little or no family support in the local area. Since only 1/3 of single moms receive child support she may have little financial or no financial support from the children's father leaving her living paycheck to paycheck and often working 2 jobs.
Often times single moms feel isolated and alone due to lack of meaningful support system, limited resources of time and money to socialize and provide good self-care and emotional well-being. For all these reasons, we want to provide support to these moms.
Receiving even a small gift from the heart and knowing someone TRULY cares can take someone's mood, esteem, and outlook a long way.
There are NO UPPER LIMIT INCOME GUIDELINES. This is about providing encouragement, support, and joy for single moms who work and often feel alone, unsupported, and unrecognized for all she does. In our research, a single mom making $20K or $120K experiences many of the same challenges.
We understand there are many reasons to be flexible, for example, this mom may not be working because she has medical issues that currently prevent that or she may have been furloughed from a job and is currently job searching. We want to help and support as many single moms as funds and community support allow us to with our primary focus on supporting the single moms who work regardless of economic status.
It is possible that not every application will be fulfilled due to lack of funding, volunteer resources and NOT meeting our criteria. Aligning with our mission, our priority is single moms who are working. We will assign priority based on this criteria and all other applicants are determined at the discretion of the review committee.
By completing this application either as a member of the community referring a working single mom or as a mom self-referring, you understand and take full responsibility for the information shared on this application. You promise the information is accurate and applies to the person described as a single mom.
There are no paperwork submission requirements to participate.
What happens when the nominee is selected?
Volunteers shop, wrap and deliver the wrapped gifts to the name and address provided. We ONLY deliver directly to the applicant - NOT a third party. A volunteer contacts the mom and schedule a delivery time. You as the referrer may be contacted if additional information is needed. The referrer remains anonymous unless otherwise determined.
*** YOU MUST PROVIDE AN EMAIL THAT BELONGS TO THE SINGLE MOM NOMINEE. A phone number and email that belongs to the single mom applicant are required. If the phone number and email listed are the same as the referring indivdual who is not the single mom applicant, then the application will be deleted for not meeting our criteria.
