ABOUT THE STONEWARE GALLERY:
The Stoneware Gallery, established in 1978, is one of Canada’s longest running pottery collectives and is known for high quality ceramics. The Gallery’s 17 members offer a wide variety of styles and firing techniques.
Membership benefits:
•2 shelving units (1 for half members) plus floating pedestals to display your work
•Access to sell on the Stoneware Gallery webshop
•Feature and representation on social media and the website
•Direct access to customers and connections within the local community
•Ability to showcase your work and control over pricing and display of your work
Financial obligations:
•The gallery requires a $2000 membership buy in (that can be paid in instalments over the first year)
•Montly rent of $440 ($240 for half member) will be required at the start of the month you become a member, rent after that will be deducted from your sales, the balance to be paid to you by cheque the last day of the month for the next months rent. If you do not sell enough in the month to cover your rent, you will be expected to pay your rent prior to the first of the next month.
•A 4% fee is deducted off each sale to cover shared expenses such as processing fees, packing materials etc
Time commitments:
•The gallery requires each member work a 7 hr shift every two weeks plus some extra half shifts scheduled around gallery sales plus thursday evenings seasonally.
•Equitably divided duties ranging from 2-10hrs a month (examples could be taking deposits to the bank, ordering and organizing packing materials, working on advertising etc)
•All members are expected to attend 3-4 meetings per year at the gallery, these often happen on Sunday or in the evening after 5 pm
•The gallery is refreshed every 6 to 8 weeks on a Sunday with ‘pot moving’, this requires all members to come in during their scheduled time to refresh and move their work.
•A 1 year initial membership commitment with a 6 month departure notice is required.
