FAQ about Singing with Sally:
Q: What if I don't read music?
A: We don't use sheet music. We learn everything by ear, call and response style.
Q: What if I don't know the Nefesh versions of these songs? All these melodies are new to me.
A: Singing with Sally is where you can take the time to learn those melodies in a small group, slowly, and feel more confident singing at services!
Q: Do you sing other stuff?
A: Yes, modern folk songs. African rounds. Meditation chants. All sorts of things that make us feel connected to one another.
Q: What if I don't feel confident about my singing? Like, I (or others) feel I am not a great singer.
A: That's fine. Those other people were incorrect. Did you know that no one can hear you, or judge you, if you are singing in a group? It's true!
Q: What if I've haven't sung since I was a child? I've changed a lot since then. I have no idea if I can sing.
A: This was true for lots of people at Singing with Sally. Singing together is how we get to know our own voices. And…you can sing, promise.
Q: You all looked so confident up there at Kol Nidre, I'm not sure I want to do that.
A: You can come to Singing with Sally and never sing in front of anyone else. We aren't a choir and we aren't rehearsing for a performance. We are a group of people who gather to sing different music every time and enjoy being together.
