Before we get started, here's what to expect:

We are working with Amazon AWS’s Responsible AI team to build a representative dataset that includes a wide range of skin tones in different lighting settings. If you choose to participate, you will be scheduled for a 30 minute session at our studio in Downtown Newark NJ where we will capture images of your face in different directions using several camera devices.

Below is an example of the camera angles.

When applying, we ask participants to submit 10 - 20 photos of themselves in different situations and lighting conditions. During the in person studio session, we will capture a variety of poses and facial expressions.

We are also running a small pilot study that looks at how handwriting is processed in AI systems. If you choose to take part in this optional activity, we will ask you to provide a short handwriting sample.

• To participate, you must meet the following requirements:
  • Be 18 years or older
  • Be able to attend a 30 minute photo session at pocstock studios in Downtown Newark NJ
  • Be willing to provide basic demographic information including age, ancestry, ethnicity, and gender
  • Be able to provide 10 to 20 images of yourself from your phone
  • Be able to provide a handwriting sample

If you are registering multiple people, such as family members, a group, or a class, each person must register and schedule individually.

Photo requirements:

• You must be the only person in each photo.
• No group shots. No other people or pets in the photo.
• Each photo should be taken on a different day.
• All photos must be taken within the past 5 years.

These photos will be used as references to compare with the images captured during your studio session.

• I acknowledge that I have notice of and, to the extent my personal data is provided by POCSTOCK to Amazon, my personal data is subject to, the Amazon privacy notice available at https://aws.amazon.com/privacy/, including as indicated therein my rights under applicable laws for the jurisdiction where I reside.

If your personal data is provided by POCSTOCK to Amazon and Amazon’s processing of your personal data is subject to data protection laws which require a lawful basis for processing, unless your explicit consent is required, then Amazon’s processing of your personal data is necessary for the performance of the POCSTOCK Terms between you and POCSTOCK.

• I agree that Amazon may process biometric data to develop, improve, and maintain Amazon’s commercial artificial intelligence and machine learning products and services. 
 
• I agree that Amazon may process any other special categories of personal data or sensitive personal data it collects about me (e.g., race, ethnic origin) to develop, improve, and maintain Amazon’s commercial artificial intelligence and machine learning products and services.
 
Where required by applicable data protection laws, you may withdraw your consent for Amazon’s processing of your personal data that is based on the lawful basis of consent at any time by contacting data.requests@pocstock.com. Any withdrawal of consent will only take effect for future processing after Amazon has received actual notice of your withdrawn consent and will not affect the lawfulness of processing before Amazon received such notice.

• I acknowledge that Amazon may publish online my personal data, transcripts, demographic characteristics, any other special categories of personal data or otherwise sensitive personal data (e.g., race, ethnic origin) and related information which may be viewed, downloaded, and/or processed by researchers and/or the general public and that this publication by Amazon is necessary for the performance of the POCSTOCK Terms between you and POCSTOCK. Amazon will not publish online any written identifiers which can be used to directly identify you (e.g., your name, email address, or address).

• I also acknowledge that Amazon may disclose my personal data in accordance with the terms set forth in the Amazon privacy notice.

Other researchers and/or members of the general public may be separate controllers of your personal data. Amazon is not responsible for the processing of your personal data by researchers and/or the general public.

• I agree that my participation in this project is completely voluntary and that it is continuous and binding on my personal representatives, heirs, and assigns. I agree that my participation in this project does not grant me any rights in or to the data collected or processed, except as expressly set forth in the Amazon privacy notice or any applicable law, and does not grant me any rights in or to Amazon’s products and services.
