    Non-Medical Transportation Policy

    This policy provides clear guidelines for caregivers who transport clients for non-medical purposes on behalf of Andre Heavenly Homecare Agency (AHHA Its purpose is to promote the safety of clients and caregivers, ensure regulatory compliance with the Illinois Department on Aging (IDoA), and clearly define the agency's liability limits.

    This policy applies to all AHHA employees, contractors, and caregivers who assist clients with non-medical transportation, such as grocery shopping, banking or bill payments, community or recreational activities, and running client errands.

    Transportation by caregivers may only occur when approved by agency management and included in the client's care plan. Andre Heavenly Homecare Agency allows caregivers to assist clients with non-medical transportation under the following conditions:

    1. Use of Caregiver's Personal Vehicle

    Caregivers transporting clients in their own vehicle must hold a valid Illinois driver's license, maintain current auto insurance meeting at least the Illinois minimum liability requirements ($25,000 / $50,000 / $20,000), submit proof of driver's license and insurance to the agency, use a vehicle that is safe, clean, and in good working condition, and obtain written management approval and client consent before transportation begins. Andre Heavenly Homecare Agency does not own, operate, or insure caregiver vehicles.

    2. Use of Client's Vehicle Caregivers may drive a client's vehicle only if they are listed as an approved driver on the client's insurance policy, the agency receives written proof of insurance coverage and written consent from the client or their Power of Attorney (POA), and the client's vehicle is properly insured and maintained by the client.

    A Transportation Consent Form must be signed by both caregiver and client (or representative Transportation is limited to approved, non-medical trips only. Personal use of vehicles or off-duty transportation is strictly prohibited. Mileage logs must be submitted for every trip. Seat belts must be worn by all occupants at all times. No texting or phone use while driving. Any incident, accident, or vehicle damage must be reported immediately to AHHA management.

  • Andre Heavenly Homecare Agency provides coordination only for non-medical transportation assistance. The caregiver and client assume all risks and responsibilities when traveling in any vehicle (caregiver's or client's Andre Heavenly Homecare Agency is not responsible and will not be held liable for any accidents, injuries, or property damage that occur while transportation is being provided, any incident, claim, or loss arising from a caregiver running errands on behalf of a client, or any insurance coverage disputes related to transportation or vehicle use. By participating in transportation activities, both caregiver and client acknowledge that the agency is not responsible for any outcome or event occurring during or related to transportation.

    Failure to follow this policy may result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination, and/or revocation of transportation privileges. Andre Heavenly Homecare Agency reserves the right to suspend or deny transportation authorization at any time.
