  • Mandatory Bead Drop & Guest Member Orientation

All Guests and Safety Monitors are required to attend the Mandatory Bead Drop meeting (beginning with the Gasparilla Children's Parade) that they are participating in the night before each parade. In addition, Guests are required to participate in one of the Guest Member Orientation meetings held the week before each parade.
  • MANDATORY BEAD DROP & PARADE MEETING BEFORE EACH PARADE

Beginning with the Gasparilla Children's Parade, all YKSHM Guests and Security Monitors are required to attend the Bead Drop prior to each parade they are participating in.  The Bead Drop is typically held the night before the parade at Stepp’s Float Yard.  Bead Drop event details, including the address to Stepp’s Float Yard, will be listed on the Members Only Krewe Facebook page at least one (1) week prior to each parade. Due to security concerns, many parades prohibit attendees from bringing their bead bags onto the parade route the day of the parade.  Therefore, YKSHM guests can place their parade bead bags on their designated float for that parade at Bead Drop. Krewe Members and guests are limited to no more than two (2) bead bags each.

During Bead Drop, the Captain will have a Mandatory Parade Meeting where they will review the rules of the parade.  It is mandatory that all parade participants (members or guests) be present for the Mandatory Parade Meeting. If you are participating in the parade but cannot make the Bead Drop or Mandatory Parade Meeting, you must contact the Captain to make any necessary arrangements.

    MANDATORY GUEST ORIENTATION MEETING

Prior to each parade, the Membership Director will hold a couple of New Member & Guest Orientation Meetings online via Zoom (1/2 hour long). Details, including the Zoom link, will be posted in an event invite on the Members Only Facebook Page. It is mandatory that all Guests participating in that parade attend the meeting. During the meeting, the Membership Director will review any pertinent information regarding the parade including logistics and rules and answer any questions participants may have.

  • Parade Rules & Krewe Codes of Conduct

    • Guests or Members caught with or consuming alcohol during those three parades will be asked to leave immediately and will not be allowed to participate in any future YKSHM parades or events.
    • Unless transportation is provided by YKSHM, Members, Safety Monitors, and all Guests are required to provide their own transportation to and from each parade event, as well as getting themselves to the staging area on time for each parade.
    • REMEMBER YOU AND/OR YOUR CHILD GUEST(S), ARE A GUEST OF THE KREWE: During the parade, you represent our Krewe and are expected to follow the parade rules.  It is the intent of the Krewe to maintain an image that is respected by event spectators, event sponsors, and law enforcement officers.
    • All participants must be in costume (pirate garb), THIS INCLUDES CHILDREN. Exceptions are made for the Veteran's Day Parade and Santa Fest Parade where participants are encouraged to dress in red/white/blue (Veteran's Parade) and in Christmas attire (Santa Fest Parade).  No street clothes will be allowed.  This does not apply to Safety Monitors, only parade participants.  Guests will be removed from the parade and not be allowed to participate if they are not in appropriate costume.
    • If applicable, all parade participants are required to wear and have visible the applicable parade/float wristbands provided to you at bead drop while on the parade route.  Participants without wristbands will not be allowed onto the parade route or to participate in the parade.
    • All Guests are required to WALK for the parade. Exceptions can be made for children.  Children under the age of 7 are required to ride the float.
    • All stools and benches are reserved/assigned seating.  If your name is not on the stool, do not sit on it unless given permission by the stool owner or Captain.  This rule also applies to ALL benches on Lady Morgan.
    • Once you arrive at the float on the day of the parade, please be sure to move all your bead bags to the OUTSIDE hooks of the float. Hooks are first come, first served.
    • All parade participants are required to supply their own beads/items.  Do not touch, use, or move any beads that do not belong to you.  This includes any bead bags hanging from hooks. If you run out of your beads/items, continue walking while waving and smiling to the crowd.  DO NOT help yourself to anyone else's beads!
    • Staging is when the float is parked and awaiting the beginning of the parade. Staging continues all the way until the start of the parade.
    • NO BEADS CAN BE THROWN OR DISTRIBUTED PRIOR TO THE PARADE START!!!  This means you can't hand out beads/items to spectators during staging.
    • ALL BEADS MUST BE THROWN UNDERHANDED – NO OVERHAND TOSSES ALLOWED.  Parents/Guardians are asked to make sure that their child guest(s) are not hitting members or spectators with their beads when throwing.
    • Parade participants may not exit or board the float while it is in motion during the parade.  You must wait until the float has come to a stop and security is present to help you.
    • DO NOT TOUCH THE SOUND SYSTEM ON ANY OF THE FLOATS!  If it needs adjustments (i.e. volume), you must see the Captain.
    • ALL WALKERS MUST STAY TO THE SIDES OR BEHIND THE FLOAT FOR SAFETY – DO NOT WALK IN FRONT OF THE FLOAT OR IN BETWEEN THE FLOAT AND TOW VEHICLE.
    • All participants are required to follow and obey any guidance or instructions given by law enforcement, parade officials, or YKSHM Safety Monitors.
    • Please be kind to our Safety Monitors.  They are volunteering their time so that we can participate in the parade.  Please treat them with respect and follow their instructions.  If you have an issue with a YKSHM Safety Monitor seek out the YKSHM Master at Arms or a Board member immediately.
    • BE SAFE, ENJOY YOURSELF, AND FOLLOW THE RULES SO THAT WE CAN ALL HAVE FUN AND ENJOY THE PARADE!

    Lady Morgan Specific Rules:

Lady Morgan is the float used most often for the Veteran's Day, Santa Fest, and Gasparilla Children's Parades.  Here are the parade rules specific to the Lady Morgan float:

    • Participants may hang their beads from the hooks located on the metal railings.  DO NOT HANG ANY BEADS FROM THE LIGHTS LOCATED ON THE TOP RAILING!
    • During staging, we ask that everyone keep the aisle on the starboard side (right side) of the Lady Morgan clear and refrain from standing or sitting there to keep this aisle open for people to reach the bar for drinks and snacks.
    • Once the parade begins, it is fine to stand on the right side of the Lady Morgan and throw beads.
    • Once you get your drink/snack, please exit that area as soon as possible to facilitate others in getting drinks/snacks.
    • Only participants who purchased bins will have access to their bins during staging.  If it is not your bin, do not open it!  Once the parade starts, bins are to remain closed during the parade!
    • Please do not put any food or drinks in the bins, as this can cause insect infestation.
    • NO ONE IS ALLOWED ON THE ROOF OR STAIRS LEADING TO THE ROOF!
    • If you are not assigned a bench on Lady Morgan, please do not sit on the benches.  IN ADDITION, if you have been assigned a reserved spot on the Lady Morgan bench, the spot is non-transferable and is only for you.  All seats on the bench are numbered on the railing. Please sit only in your assigned numbered spot.

    Safety Monitor Specific Rules:

    • Without your participation as a Safety Monitor, YKSHM cannot participate in the parade.  If for any reason you cannot fulfill your duties as a Safety Monitor, it is your responsibility to contact the Master at Arms immediately.
    • As a Safety Monitor you have access to the float during staging for non-alcoholic beverages, bathroom facilites, and snacks. However, once the parade starts, please remain in your assigned position.
    • Safety Monitors are required to wear bright safety vests that will be provided by the YKSHM Master at Arms during the parade.  At the end of the parade, vests must be returned to the Master at Arms.
    • For parades that allow alcohol (Gasparilla Day Parade, Sant'Yago Knight Parade, and the St. Patrick's Day Parade), excessive drunkenness will not be tolerated and poses a risk for YKSHM.  Those parade participants that are overly intoxicated and deemed a risk will be removed from the parade.  If you feel that a YKSHM parade participant is excessively drunk, it is your duty to notify the Master at Arms and/or the Captain immediately.
    • DO NOT allow bead throwing in the staging area.  Staging area is all the way until the start of the parade. NO EXCEPTIONS!!
    • DO NOT pick up beads or throw beads while you are performing your duties as a Safety Monitor.  It is fine to kick beads out of the way of Krewe Members as they are walking to ensure their safety.  However, your first priority is to ensure safety, not bead clearing.
    • DO NOT allow unassisted entry or exit of the floats while they are in motion.
    • All walkers must stay to the sides of the float for safety - DO NOT let them walk in front of the tow truck or go between the tow truck and the float.
    • If any Krewe Member is in need of immediate assistance (medical or otherwise), is causing a fight, being belligerent, or is exhibiting behavior unbecoming of a YKSHM Krewe Member, it is your duty to report it to the Master at Arms and/or Captain immediately.  Do not try and handle the situation on your own.

During the parade, if you have any questions or need assistance, please contact a board member.  All board members will be wearing black armbands with red writing identifying themselves.
