I am looking for 8 participants who are interested in donating their clothes to be reworked into woven and knit pieces. Clothes that would otherwise contribute to textile waste, will be turned into rag rugs (a form of tapestry weaving using t-shirt yarn and fabric scraps) or reknit sweaters, taking on a DIY/glitch aesthetic.
Participants will share stories about their clothing, which will inform the transformation process. After transforming the donated items into new forms, I will return them to the participants (in summer 2026). Participants must be in Toronto and able to drop off their garments.
By repurposing these materials, I aim to extend their life, highlight the environmental impact of textile waste, and foster conversations about sustainability, consumption, and the emotional connections we have with our clothing.
Deadline: November 15th, 2025.
I would like to acknowledge funding support from the Ontario Arts Council and the Government of Ontario. Produced with the support of the City of Toronto through Toronto Arts Council.
