Greater Wasilla Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors ApplicationThank you for your interest in serving as a member of the Board of Directors of the Greater Wasilla Chamber of Commerce. Serving on the board is a rewarding experience and an opportunity for personal and professional growth. Completing this form will help you understand the skills and time/resource commitments of this leadership position. Digital applications are preferred, but paper applications are also available and can be acquired from Chamber Staff. This application will be kept confidential and on file at the Chamber office. Applications are used by the Chambers Nominating & Governance Committee to identify and evaluate potential board candidates. All new directors are elected by a majority vote of the membership in good standing. Any question regarding this application or Board service should be directed to the Nominating & Governance Committee Chair or the Chamber CEO.

GWCC Board Member – Base Criteria

To serve on the Greater Wasilla Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, nominees must meet the following criteria:

🔹 Eligibility

Must be an active member (or designated representative of an active business member) of GWCC in good standing, including being current on all dues.
Must have been a member for at least 12 months prior to application.

🔹 Qualifications

Demonstrated commitment to the mission, vision, and values of the GWCC.
Possess experience, skills, or attributes beneficial to the Chamber (e.g., leadership, financial oversight, governance, business development, marketing, economic development, etc.).
Willingness to serve as a public ambassador for the Chamber and its members.
Strong ethical standards, community reputation, and collaborative mindset.

🔹 Expectations & Commitments

Serve a 3-year term (unless filling a partial term).
Attend quarterly board meetings (Monthly for Executive Board).
Actively participate in at least one Chamber committee or task force.
Actively attend and support Chamber events and initiatives.
Contribute to fundraising efforts, including helping secure sponsorships or support for events, campaigns and membership.
Adhere to the Conflict of Interest and Confidentiality policies.
Complete Board Orientation and sign annual board agreement.

🔹 Bonus – Highly Encouraged

Prior participation in Chamber programs, events, or committees.
Reside in or own a business within the Greater Wasilla area.
Willingness to advocate for business-friendly policy locally and regionally.

Board Member Responsibilities

Include but not limited to the following:

1. Serves a minimum of one (1) three-year term on the Board. Eligible to serve two (2) three-year terms

2. Attend a minimum of three (3) Chamber events each month (includes Board Meetings, Committee Meetings, weekly luncheons, and other Chamber events. The full Board of Directors meets 4 times per year on a set schedule.

3. Makes a serious commitment to participate actively in Chamber committee work. The GWCC is an active board where directors are expected to actively participate in committees.

4. Stays informed about committee matters, is prepared for meetings, and reviews and comments on minutes and reports.

5. Builds a collegial working relationship with other board members that contributes to consensus.

6. Participates in annual evaluation and planning efforts.

7. Participates in the advancement of the strategic plan of the Chamber, including fundraising and member recruitment.

8. Contributes financially or in kind to support the success of the Chamber, including but not limited to, participating in selling raffle tickets for Chamber raffles.

Candidate AgreementCandidates agree to provide a minimum of 2-4 hours a month in attendance to Board and Committee meetings and other Chamber functions, and that Candidates do not have any conflict of interest in participating on the Board. Candidate agrees they can fulfill the duties of an elected Director of the Greater Wasilla Chamber of Commerce as outlined in this application. If elected, Candidates will be required to attend mandatory Board Orientation prior to attending their first Board Meeting.
