The Capa Space is honored to present Cornell Capa: Father of Concerned Photography, an exhibition opening on December 6th, celebrating the visionary founder of the International Center for Photography and brother of legendary war photographer Robert Capa.
In 1967, Cornell Capa coined the term "concerned photography" to describe work created by photographers who are "concerned with their world and times." He believed that photography has the power to educate, inform, and inspire change, that images can bear witness to the human condition and compel us toward greater understanding and compassion. This philosophy became the foundation of ICP and has influenced generations of photographers who use their cameras as instruments of social awareness.
The Call
As part of this exhibition, we invite our community to participate in the tradition Cornell Capa championed. We are calling for photographic submissions that embody the spirit of concerned photography, images that engage with social issues, document the human experience, illuminate injustice, celebrate resilience, or reflect your deep connection to the world around you.
Selected submissions will be featured in a community slideshow event at The Capa Space, joining past community slideshow projects on protest and war photography (available on our YouTube channel). This is your opportunity to add your voice to a collective conversation about what it means to be a concerned photographer today.
Submission Deadline: January 23, 2026 at midnight EST.
Submission Requirements
