Petition for a new special group license plate for Colorado

The Suicide Loss Memorial Foundation, our non-profit organization, is proposing a new initiative in Colorado: the creation of a special group license plate dedicated to mental health. This license plate will not only honor those we have lost to suicide, but will also generate essential donations to aid in building memorials and supporting youth affected by suicide or grappling with mental health challenges themselves. Statistically, suicide is among the leading causes of death in the United States, with Colorado bearing a higher rate compared to the national average. In 2024 alone, over 1,300 lives were tragically lost to suicide in our state. This is a pressing issue that demands our collective attention and action. By instituting a special mental health license plate, we can create a continuous reminder of the importance of mental wellness and the impact of suicide. Not only will it spark conversations and awareness, but it will also directly contribute to programs that support individuals who are mourning a loss or struggling with their mental health.
