  • Brief synopsis of show:

    The Boy From Oz tells the inspiring true story of Australian entertainer Peter Allen — from his humble beginnings in Tenterfield to international fame. Discovered by Judy Garland, Peter moves to America, marries her daughter Liza Minnelli, and becomes a celebrated songwriter and performer. As he discovers his true identity and finds love with Greg Connell, Peter faces both triumph and heartbreak, including the loss of Greg to AIDS and his own illness. Returning home to Australia, Peter gives one final, unforgettable performance, celebrating a life filled with love, music, and resilience.

    Peter Allen – The charismatic Australian showman and heart of the story. A high-energy triple threat who sings, dances, narrates, and commands the stage with charm and flair. (Age 25–45, strong dancer/tapper, contemporary vocal B–high).


    Judy Garland – Legendary Hollywood star, magnetic and world-weary, balancing glamour with vulnerability. (Age 40–55, confident mover, rich low voice).


    Liza Minnelli – Spirited, stylish, and ambitious performer living in her mother’s shadow until her own fame rises. Quirky, emotional, and a powerhouse triple threat. (Age 22–40, strong dancer with Fosse style, G–E5 belt).


    Marion Woolnough – Peter’s loving and protective mother, warm and grounded, with emotional depth. (Age 40–65, strong lyrical singer, light movement.)


    Greg Connell – Peter’s devoted Texan partner; charming, sincere, and quietly strong. (Age 30s, Texas accent, intermediate dancer, Middle C–D range.)


    Young Peter Allen – Bright, hopeful, and full of life; a natural performer who can sing and tap. (Age ~10, tap required.)


    Valerie Anthony / Josie Mann / Others – Versatile character roles including a tough Aussie pub owner and a New York socialite. (Age 35+, strong singer, intermediate dancer.)


    Karen / Shena / Linelle (Trio / Rockettes) – Peter’s glamorous backing vocalists, pop-style singers with great harmony and stage presence. (Age 20–35, strong movers, F–Bb5 range.)


    Ensemble (Female & Male / Rockettes) – Skilled singer-dancers playing multiple small roles. Strong jazz, tap, and Fosse-inspired movement required. (Age 20s–30s, diversity encouraged.)


    Dee Anthony / Dick Woolnough / Others – Strong male character roles including Peter’s tough father and a New York music manager. (Age 50+, non-singing preferred, tall, commanding.)
