Project Sweet Peas is a 501(c)3 national non-profit organization coordinated by volunteers, who through personal experience have become passionate about providing support to families of premature or sick infants and to those who have been affected by pregnancy and infant loss.

Project Sweet Peas acknowledges the importance of parental involvement in caregiving and decision-making in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), and seeks to promote family-centered care (FCC) competencies in hospitals nationwide. Care packages, hospital events, peer-to-peer support, financial aid, educational materials, and other Project Sweet Peas services, support the cultural, spiritual, emotional, and financial needs of families as they endure life in the NICU.

Project Sweet Peas makes a lifelong commitment to support families experiencing pregnancy and infant loss. In a baby’s last moments, families are encouraged to make cherished memories with custom Project Sweet Peas keepsake items. Healing and remembrance continue to be fostered through programming such as peer-to-peer support, and our annual candlelight vigil.

    Our Commitments

    • Promote parental involvement in caregiving and decision-making in the NICU by empowering parents and caregivers with resources [and support] they need
    • Deliver opportunities for memory-making and bonding
    • Give a bit of normalcy and joy to the NICU experience by helping parents embrace and celebrate milestones
    • Comfort families faced with saying goodbye by providing cherished keepsakes
    • Foster healing and remembrance for bereaved families through peer-to-peer support and an annual candlelight vigil

Through our services, we give from our hearts, to inspire families with the hope of tomorrow.

We rely heavily on open communication between all parts of Project Sweet Peas in order to successfully service thousands of NICU families each year. To facilitate that, we use the Slack Communication Tool (website, app, desktop) for almost all communications in addition to a Project Sweet Peas assigned email address. In order to ensure information is delivered and received accurately, a minimum of once weekly Slack message and Gmail checks are required. Failure to meet the minimum communication requirements may lead to revocation of volunteer status.

In order to maintain our nonprofit status and be able to apply for/receive grant funding, PSP must provide documented volunteer hours, so it is essential for all volunteers to submit hours and workbook reports monthly. Additionally, it is incredibly important for Advocates to serve on one of PSP's National Committees; a minimum of 5 hours monthly is required for the term of this agreement. Failure to meet these requirements may lead to revocation of volunteer status.
