  • AGE REQUIREMENT

    AACT Young Performers - 13-18

Minimum age: The actor must be the minimum age on or before the dates of auditions.

Maximum age: The actor can be the maximum age at auditions, and then have a birthday during the rehearsal process, and run of the show. For example, if they are 18 during auditions, and then turn 19 during the rehearsal process, that is acceptable. Once an actor has graduated from High School they are no longer eligible to participate in the Young Performers Programs, even if they are still 18.

*Special Note for the Young Performers Productions - Depending on the show that is being done, the minimum age requirement may change. Occasionally we have need of younger actors.

    Other Obligations

    • Each family is required to spend at least 3 hours per actor helping with the show. There are plenty of ways to help that can fit your schedule, those will be discussed at the mandatory parent meeting
    • Everyone is required to be help on Build Days, this year we will have two and it will be determined later who is needed when and where
    • Everyone is required to help “strike the set” after the final show is over.
Striking the set - refers to taking the set down, packing away props, cleaning up our area and getting it ready for our next show. Leaving no trace of Peter/Wendy is key.

Each actor gets one complimentary (free) ticket, you must pay for all other tickets.

    Rehearsal Attendance Policy

    • Theater is the ultimate team activity. It is so important that everyone is at their rehearsals. It is impossible to adequately rehearse a scene when some of the cast is missing.
    • The actors might not be scheduled to be at every rehearsal for the entire time.
Your actor will need to be at all of their scheduled rehearsals, unless it is previously listed on their availability form.
    • We LOVE to celebrate with actors their birthday if it happens to fall on a rehearsal date. A Birthday is NOT an excused absence. Please let us know so that we can have a mini party with them!
    • Please make sure all scheduling conflicts are listed below. It MUST be filled out before you audition. If needed, you can add any additional conflicts before the Call Back Audition.
    • We DO take the number of conflicts into account when casting a show.
    • Saturday rehearsals are mandatory. For already scheduled school or family obligations, you may be excused from ONE Saturday rehearsal, but it must be listed on your conflict sheet. Any other circumstances need to be approved by the director.
    • An absence is considered unexcused if the actor must miss rehearsal for any reason other than illness, family emergency or something that is NOT already listed on the conflict calendar.
    • After 1 unexcused absence, your actor maybe dismissed from the show.
    • You must contact the Stage Manager prior to rehearsal to be excused for illness or family emergency.

Please check all schedules, family obligations, dance, sports, school conflicts etc. when listing your conflicts.

  • Now that we got the paperwork part out of the way, let's get on with the audition and what to expect.

For this audition, you will be asked to read a side (a side is a small part of the script) with a partner. Below you will find links to the google document. Look over all three, you might be asked to read for something that you aren't particularly auditioning for. The director uses these as tools to get a feel for what would be the best fit for you and to see your range.

We provide the sides early so it isn't so much of a cold read (cold read in theatre is when you don't know what you are about to read), so there is no worries about that.

If you would like to prepare a monologue (a dialogue of just one person) you are more than welcome to do so but it is not necessary. You can find monologue anywhere; google search teen monologue, recite a speech or a passage from your favorite book or poem, or a monologue from your favorite movie or play. Even though it isn't necessary, having a monologue prepared sometimes can show the director just what they need to cast you.

  • You will also be able to find these sides on the AACT website, AuburnACT.org (under the Peter/Wendy audition page)- for quicker find after hitting submit.

    Peter and Wendy Side

    Hook and Smee Side

    Mr and Mrs Darling

During auditions we won't have sides for the characters of Tiger Lily, Daisy, Orchid, Tinkerbell, Lost Child or Pirate. Just pick any side. Just because you are reading for a certain part does not mean that we aren't considering all parts available.

  •  TIPS FOR AUDITIONING!!

    • Be Yourself! You don’t have to be perfect—just be YOU! Directors want to see your personality, so let it shine.
    • Practice, Practice, Practice The more you rehearse your song, monologue, or lines, the more confident you’ll feel. Practice in front of a mirror or with a friend!
    • Know What You’re Auditioning For Take a little time to learn about the show and the characters. It helps you know the vibe of what you're doing.
    • Warm Up Your Voice and Body Before your audition, do some gentle stretches and vocal warm-ups to get your body and voice ready to perform.
    • Dress Comgortably. Some people like to dress the part and that is more than welcomed, but not necessary. Just be sure you are comfortable and able to move.
    • Smile and Say Hello When you walk in, greet the audition team with a smile and confidence. A good attitude goes a long way!
    • Make Bold Choices Even if you’re nervous, try something fun or different with your character. Big energy stands out!
    • Keep Going if You Mess Up It’s okay to make a mistake! Don’t say “oops”—just keep going like it didn’t happen. That shows real professionalism.
    • Be a Good Listener Pay attention to directions from the team and be respectful of others auditioning. Teamwork starts on day one!
    • MOST IMPORTANTLY Have Fun! This is your time to shine and enjoy yourself. Theater is all about creativity, joy, and telling stories together!
