Community support opposing Amazon's proposed natural gas fuel-cell power plant
  •

    KNOW THE FACTS
Amazon is pushing to construct a natural gas fuel-cell power plant that will affect all Hilliard area residents. This fuel-cell power plant will be the largest in the US and second largest world and will sit just 100 yards from Hilliard homes and schools. There are major concerns from community residents, environmental groups, the fire department, and city council members regarding the overall safety of this project. There will be substantial CO2 emitted, health and respiratory concerns, the threat of fires, and the effect this plant will have on area property values. The power plant will not produce any additional jobs in Hilliard and was never approved by the City of Hilliard but in an over-reaching decision the 7-member Ohio Power Sitting Board (OPSB) approved Amazon's plan to move forward without any regard to the City of Hilliard's legitimate concerns which were documented and submitted to the OPSB. Amazon is trying to push this through quickly with full knowledge Hilliard has no codes or ordinances in place to provide essential operational guidelines.

    MOVING FORWARD
The City of Hilliard needs to appeal the OPSB decision and file for an injunction or stay of construction to delay or stop this project. The City’s lack of zoning jurisdiction over OPSB rulings does not remove its responsibility—or ability—to pursue legal and procedural recourse on behalf of Hilliard residents. There are well-documented concerns that the OPSB decision fails to address. Hilliard City Council is responsible for filing this appeal, but not all Hilliard City Council Members are on board.

TWO MAJOR WAYS YOU CAN HELP

#1 SIGN THE BELOW ONLINE PETITION This was created for area residents to voice their concern and opposition to the proposed Amazon power plant project and to strongly encourage Hilliard City Council Members to appeal the OPSB decision. Once you sign this petition it will be emailed directly to all Hilliard City Council Members.

#2 ATTEND THE CITY COUNCIL MEETING (MON 10/27/25 @ 6PM) Anyone that shows up at Monday's City Council Meeting will have (3) minutes to voice their concern and opposition to Amazon's power plant project AND speak directly with Hilliard City Council Members encouraging them to appeal the OPSB decision.
