• Cornell Road & Oak Hills Area - Business and Community Petition for Safety

Background: Washington County plans to open an 85-unit recovery and transitional housing facility at the former DoubleTree (15402 NW Cornell Road, Beaverton) as early as June 2026. The facility, to be operated by Helping Hands, will provide housing and support for individuals transitioning out of homelessness and addiction.

While the project aims to support recovery and stability, the County has not provided any safety or risk-mitigation plans to protect nearby local businesses and their employees, schools, childcare centers, and family neighborhoods. Current County plans do not exclude violent felons or registered sex offenders from residing at the facility. Key concerns regarding the facility include:

    • Lack of criminal background checks or risk screening
    • Safety risks for employees, customers, and nearby residents
    • Potential liability for incidents on or near private property
    • Minimal coordination with law enforcement and community stakeholders

Call to Action - Sign The Petition

As the property owner, Washington County has the authority to set eligibility criteria for this facility. We, the undersigned business owners, employees, and residents of Cornell Road and Oak Hills area, support efforts to help individuals rebuild their lives - but public safety must remain non-negotiable. We stand for responsible recovery programs that also protect our community’s right to safety and security. We urge the Washington County Board of Commissioners, Housing Authority, and project partners to take immediate action before the facility opens to ensure public safety, transparency, and accountability. We specifically call on Washington County to:

    • Exclude individuals with violent felony or sex-offense histories from eligibility.
    • Coordinate with law enforcement to establish safety and security protocols before opening.
    • Engage with nearby businesses and residents to communicate plans and address risks.
