    All staff and contractors should be aware that a small number of the public will be admitted on Wednesday 17th September for the Trot Up at 12pm, and event infrastructure and operations on site will be live. This is different from previous Blenheim Palace International Horse Trials and requires additional awareness and coordination.

  • Site Specific Risks

  • Shared Grounds – Public Access

    The Palace grounds remain open to the public during the build phase. Visitors may be walking, cycling, or using pushchairs across areas where contractors are working.
    You must always remain vigilant for members of the public.
    Barriers, signage, and banksmen must be used when moving vehicles or plant in areas where the public may be present.
    No abusive or unsafe behaviour around the public will be tolerated.
    If you see anything suspicious report it to the Site Office.
    River & Water Hazards

    The River Glyme runs through the Palace grounds. Work areas may be close to the river and its tributaries.
    Banks can be soft, unstable, and prone to collapse. Always maintain a safe distance when working near the water’s edge.
    Rescue equipment is located at identified points near the river; familiarise yourself with their location.
    Anyone working near or over the water must wear a suitable lifejacket and follow method statement controls.
    Report to the Site Office before working along the waters edge.

  • SITE RULES

  • 1) Site speed limit is 10mph
    2) ALWAYS wear a high visibility during the construction and deconstruction phase
    3) DO NOT use side hazard lights when driving on site, use indicators so pedestrians know which way you are turning
    4) ALWAYS take care of yourself and keep an eye out for others who may be affected by your work
    5) LOOK OUT for children and inexperienced staff who will be unaware of the dangers
    6)DO NOT remove barriers or guards from hazardous areas or from any work machinery
    7) REPORT all accidents, incidents or dangerous circumstances to the Safety Team or Site Management
    8) BE AWARE of your surroundings and make sure you know what to do in the event of an emergency and how to get help quickly
    9) ASK FOR HELP when lifting heavy objects, DO NOT strain yourself
    10) DO NOT consume alcohol during work hours, ENSURE you do not have alcohol in your system before starting work
    11) The site is a No Fly Zone for drones unless approved by Organisers

  • SITE PLAN

  • It is important to familiarise yourself with the site, and the location of welfare and medical facilities as well as where you will be working or where your stand is.

    It is also important to identify primary vehicle routes to get to your work area.

  • Vehicles, Plant and Machinery

  • GENERAL VEHICLE RULES

    • The highway code and rules of the road still apply onsite
    • DO NOT use your phone while driving
    • All vehicles, including plant, provided by contractors must be insured, in safe condition with relevant test certification and driven by appropriately qualified person
    • The site speed limit is 15mph during the construction phase and reduces to DEAD SLOW once the public are on site. You must always drive safely and at a speed appropriate to the ground and site conditions
    • The use of alcohol or drugs is strictly prohibited for any person working or driving
    • Do not use hazard lights unless you are signalling a hazard
    • Motorbikes and Quads are not allowed as site vehicles. Helmets must be worn if a bike is used for your commute to wor
    • Only drivers with clean licenses and approved by Organisers Office can drive vehicles supplied by the event

  • VEHICLE ROUTES

    • ALWAYS follow main roads and ensure you follow one way systems when moving around the site
    • Do NOT drive on the grass
      You MUST observe the restrictions on vehicle movement.
    • During the show, vehicle movement will NOT be permitted in the Pedestrian Zone
    • Always use designated parking areas, do NOT block primary routes or entrances to fields, venues or general circulation areas

  • PLANT & MACHINERY

    • All plant operators must have their licenses available for inspection if requested by a member of the Site or Safety Team or Organiser Office
    • Passengers MUST NOT be carried on forklifts
    • The use of person-cages/baskets is only permitted when accompanied by a specific risk assessment

  • VEHICLE SECURITY

    • All vehicles including machinery MUST NEVER be left unattended while running and keys MUST NOT be left in the ignition or within the vehicle
  • Buggies

  • Before Use...

    • All operators of buggies must submit their driving licence and agree to the Buggy Safety Policy before they are allowed to drive the buggy
      During Use...
    • A ride-on buggy shall only be used for the number of occupants it was designed to carry
    • Do not move off until the occupants are seated
    • Always remain seated and hold on while the vehicle is in motion
    • Check the area behind the vehicle before reversing
    • Avoid sudden stops or changes of direction
    • Always consider the terrain and surroundings, other vehicles and pedestrian traffic, as well as environmental factors that may affect your ability to operate the vehicle safely
    • Drive the vehicle only as fast as the terrain and safety considerations allow and slow down before corners
    • Be extra careful when the trackway is wet, your stopping distance may be reduced

    After Use...

    • Ensure you remove the keys and engage the parking brake before leaving the vehicle
  • Medical & Welfare Facilities

  • MEDICAL

  • A First Aider and medical equipment is available from the Site Office/Organisers Office throughout the build and break of the show. 

    During the show week, a medic will be onsite between Monday 22nd July and Monday 29th July. An Automated External Defibrillator (AED) will also be available with the medic.

    If you need assistance, use the Emergency Contact number to phone for help or contact the Site Manager or Organisers Office.

  • WELFARE

  • Always use the toilets provided – do not pollute the ground. Ensure you know where your nearest toilets are before beginning work. Temporary toilets are located across site.

    Basic hygiene should remain a priority to avoid illness or infection – you are working around a functioning farm - always wash your hands!

  • Emergency Help, and Accident & Incident Reporting

  • HOW TO GET EMERGENCY HELP

    If you need emergency assistance, call the number below and give clear detail on what the incident is, where you are and what help you need.

    The emergency number will be in operation throughout the build, break and live phases of the event.

     

    Event Control will be operational 24 hours a day from Wednesday - Monday. Please make sure you save this number into your phone.

  • ACCIDENT & INCIDENT REPORTING FORM

  • All accidents, incidents and near misses must be reported to the Safety Team and Organisers Office, some may need to be investigated and reported to the HSE and/or Event Insurers.

  • All litter and waste must be removed from site or disposed of in the recycling bins provided. Large items such as sofas or other furniture MUST NOT be left onsite.

    Contractors and Exhibitors may be charged for the disposal of any items left.
