CYO COACHES CODE OF CONDUCT> PLEASE READ
Head Coach/Assistant Coach Requirements:
· Head coaches must be at least 21 years old.
· Any Assistant Coach that will assume the role of Head Coach during a game in the absence of the Head Coach must be 21 years old.
· Head Coach or Assistant Coach at least 21 years of age must arrive prior to game time to warm up their team. In the event the Head Coach (or Assistant if Coaching in Head Coaches absence) is not present by game time, 10 minutes past game time will be given. After 10 minutes the team will need to forfeit the game.
· There shall be at least 2 adults with any group of players, preferred.
· Limit of 3 Coaches on bench during games.
· All coaches, assistant coaches, and other people working with the players must have attended the “Protecting God’s Children” VIRTUS course.
· Head coaches may stand during the game. All other coaches must remain seated on the bench at all times.
. Just your players and assistant coaches are allowed on your bench or on your side of the gym.
Coaches will:
· Display good sportsmanship.
· Advise both players and parents of all the rules governing this league.
· Will be responsible for controlling their team’s fans. If their fans cause a disruption during a game, the issue should be brought under control before continuing the game.
· Will be responsible for reviewing the information on their team’s rosters/paperwork for accuracy.
· Will be responsible to ensure the CYO office has all required paperwork for players by the deadlines given and will ensure a player who has not submitted their paperwork know they cannot play until they do so.
· Will be responsible for encouraging their players to remain academically eligible to play by checking in on grades throughout the season. This could be as simple as encouraging kids to do their homework, attend school, or asking them about school and their grades.
· Will be responsible for bringing problems or concerns to the attention of Catholic Charities CYO staff for review or for a decision to be made.
· Are expected to dress appropriately during games to set a proper example for the players. CYO has purchased coaches shirts and although not mandated. It is strongly encouraged that coaches wear their coaches shirts to games. This is for professionalism and to be identifiable to our players and fans.
· Will establish their own internal rules for practices as well as location for practices
· Will ensure at all times that they have with them for both practices and games each players Emergency Care Information
· Ensure payment to the official at each game according to the fee’s listed in the CYO Handbook and introduce yourself to each referee and receive the referees name at the start of every game. (Write down their 1st name down on your clipboard.) This communication will help establish a working relationship with our referees and sets a good example for our players.
· Ensure that your team has jerseys/team shirts with numbers prior to every game of the season. CYO will provide your team with 12 team shirts with #'s. Please carry an extra with you in case a player forgets their jersey.
· Ensure that your list of players and their #'s are correct in the official book before the game starts. A player not listed cannot play in the game.
· Adhere to the rules found in the CYO Rules Book and ensure players, fans do the same, always promoting the mission of the league.
