    Action for Healthy Communities offers FREE programs to help immigrant youth to improve their life skills, to connect to community resources and information, and to stay connected with their peers and mentors.

  • Program Information 


    The Youth Work Exposure Program provides the newcomer youth aged 18-24 years old with essential skills training and Canadian work experience. The employability skills training will empower youth to understand the Canadian workplace and learn vital skills around working with children and youth.

     

    STAGE 1: Meet and Greet Interview

    Youth will participate in a short 15-20 minute online meet-and-greet interview to make sure the youth fully understand the program, the commitment level needed, and for the Facilitator and Coordinator to learn about the youth's work experience, availability, and communication skills. 

     
    STAGE 2: Fundamental and Essential Skills Training – 6 sessions 

    November through December 

    Youth will complete 6 sessions of skills training as well as an online self-led mentoring course. All in-person sessions will include lunch and snacks. Bus tickets can be provided to youth if necessary. Action for Healthy Communities is located in downtown 10578 113 St #100, Edmonton, AB T5H 3H5.

    STAGE 3:  Work Exposure

    January through February 

    During the Work Exposure Program stage, specific tasks are assigned to youth with ongoing mentoring by an assigned mentor. The work exposure setting includes in-person and online after-school youth programs and youth club activities. Transportation to and from the workplace is the participants' responsibility. 

    Youth will complete the work exposure application and are expected to adhere to all rules, regulations and policies that AHC or other community agency establishes. Only the youth who agree to AHC policies and sign the written application can participate in the work exposure. The Job & Life Skills Coordinator will work on the work schedule with the youth. After the youth complete the 30 hours of work exposure, they will receive an honorarium of $450.00.


    Note: A Police Information Check with a Vulnerable Sector Search is required.

I understand that the rules and regulations are designed for the safety and protection of participants and hereby agree to follow /inform (my child) of the importance of abiding by the rules and regulations set down by Action for Healthy Communities.

  • FOIP and Media Consent

    The personal information that you provide to Action for Healthy Communities is collected under the FOIP Act. The information will be used for the purpose of program evaluation, statistics, and reports. Collected information is protected from unauthorized access, collection, use and disclosure in accordance with FOIP Act unless we are obliged or permitted by law to disclose it.     Photography & Media release

    Photography & Media Release: I hereby give permission for me/my child/my projects/my child’s projects to be photographed/filmed by Action for Healthy Communities. I understand the photos/films will be used for promotion, sharing purposes and/or reports to our donors and for promotional purposes including flyers, brochures, newspapers, websites, and social media. I understand that although my child’s photograph/film/projects may be used for advertising, I do not expect compensation and that all photos/film/projects are the property of AHC and its affiliates.
