To commemorate American Thanksgiving, this walk in the City of London has been written and is guided by London guide Caroline Mongan (as featured on the BBC). From Jamestown to the Blitz, from philanthropy to skyscrapers — this walk is full of surprising American echoes in the heart of London.

On this walking tour, we trace hidden threads of London and American history, beginning with John Smith of Jamestown fame, a church rebuilt stone by stone in Missouri after the Blitz. We pause to reflect on George Peabody, the American philanthropist who transformed housing for London’s poor, before noting the city’s curious connections to modern figures such as Trump and the underground. The route ends at Sir Christopher Wren’s favourite church, a jewel of his genius, offering a fitting close to a walk that celebrates resilience, ambition, and transatlantic ties.
