Dear Medicare Directors:

We are aware of the proposed LCD for peripheral nerve blocks and procedures for chronic pain, which essentially eliminates all the avenues for management of chronic pain. This will impact patient access and care, along with increasing the costs to Medicare, rather than decreasing it.

Based on ASIPP’s public comments, with their objective of advancing safe, appropriate, fiscally neutral, and effective (SAFE) pain management through education research and policy engagement, we request you to:

· Modify coverage policies to allow two diagnostic blocks followed by two radiofrequency neurotomy procedures per year, if clinically indicated, or four therapeutic nerve blocks. OR

· Withdraw the LCD in its entirety
