  • Horse Trainer & Barn Manager — Full-Time, On-Site Position

    Join our team on a 120-acre working horse ranch in scenic western Montana. We’re seeking a motivated, experienced individual for a full-time, hands-on role involving horse training, riding instruction, trail rides, barn management, and general ranch operations, with a willingness to pitch in as needed.

    You’ll be the primary caretaker and trainer, responsible for day-to-day horse-related operations of the ranch. The ideal candidate is self-driven, hardworking, and thrives in a ranch lifestyle where days and tasks vary with the season.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Train and exercise ranch horses for responsiveness, riding and sale readiness, and safe performance.
    • Start ground work with colts and fillys and develop young horses.
    • Provide lessons for students of all levels.
    • Lead safe, enjoyable trail rides for guests both around the ranch property as well as on nearby mountain trails specifically designed for riding horses.
    • Oversee daily horse care: feeding, grooming, turnout, and health checks.
    • Maintain tack, feed supplies, and a clean, organized barn that meets professional standards.
    • Coordinate with veterinarians, farriers, and suppliers.
    • Assist with fencing repairs and other similar ranch chores.
    • Operate ranch equipment (tractors, UTVs, etc.).
    • Help maintain ranch infrastructure and facilities.

    Qualifications

    • Strong experience training and riding horses including starting young colts and fillys with ground work
    • Confident teaching lessons and leading groups on trail rides.
    • Reliable, detail-oriented, and organized in all aspects of horse and barn care.
    • Must be comfortable working independently for long stretches.
    • Must understand the rhythms of ranch life — some weeks will be long, others short, and flexibility is key.
    • Must be able to drive and haul horse trailers safely in mountainous terrain.
    • Basic equine first aid knowledge required.
    • Positive, professional attitude with a willingness to pitch in wherever needed.
    • Not suitable for candidates seeking strict 9–5 hours or rigid work-life separation.
