In addition to the files uploaded via this form, applications should include one letter of recommendation to be sent directly to the Clements Library from the writer. Letters should be from an individual who is familiar with your scholarly work. If you are a doctoral candidate, letters should be written by your dissertation supervisor. Letters should be sent to: clements-fellowships@umich.edu

Applications must be received by January 15, 2026 for research to be undertaken between June 1, 2026 and May 31, 2027.

You may select more than one option, but must provide a separate project summary for each duration requested. Part Three: Project Summary and Bibliography

Please upload a brief summary of the project (500 word maximum for short-term, 1,000 word maximum for long-term), including the current status of your research. Please specifically identify what Clements Library material you wish to consult. Please note that if you are applying for both a short-term and a week-long fellowship, you only need to submit ONE project summary. If you are applying for both a short-term/week-long and a long-term fellowship, you must submit two project summaries specifying the project scope within the requested time frame.
