What Would My Role Involve?
If you are selected as an examiner, your role will be to recruit participants and administer assessments on an individual basis. You will visit most participants twice, each session visit lasting approximately 2-3 hours. Session lengths will be very variable and dependent on the age and ability of the participant.
We will expect you to complete a minimum of 20 assessments but strongly encourage you to complete more than this if possible. You will only be required to administer and score the test, no interpretation or report writing is necessary.
Training: Full training will be provided, and this will take place remotely. The training is designed to ensure that you feel confident to administer the assessment accurately and are aware of all project guidelines. Upon successful completion of the training and a practice case, and the completion of a minimum of 20 paid assessments, you will receive a £300 training bonus.
Payment: The standard payment rate for each assessment is £150 if they were recruited by Pearson or £170 if you recruited them. Travel expenses will be reimbursed. We also provide a £300 training bonus for examiners who complete a minimum of 20 paid assessments.
Recruiting Participants
The expectation is that you will recruit participants to take part in the project*. It is not guaranteed that everyone you recruit will be selected. We will select participants based on whether or not they fit into the demographic participant characteristics that we need. This means you will likely need to recruit more participants than you need to assess, as not everyone will be selected to take part.
*Please Note: Pearson will run separate recruitment campaigns but we cannot guarantee that those recruited will be allocated to you for assessment. Therefore, please do not expect Pearson's recruitment to assist you obtaining your minimum of 20 assessments.
Arranging Testing Sessions
Participation will involve contacting the participants to arrange a mutually convenient time for testing. We are aiming to start data collection in March 2026 and it is due to run throughout 2026 and part of 2027. Testing sessions can be arranged for evenings and weekends to accommodate existing work commitments. Testing sessions will take place in a location preferred by the participant; this is most often their home but could also be a community space such as a room at a library. In the case of recruitment through an organisation, sessions may also take place within a school and/or workplace setting.
Examiner Information:
- If you have not worked with us before, you will be asked to provide details of a referee.
- You will need to hold an enhanced certificate from the Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) which is suitable for the child and adult workforce. If you do not have one that meets our requirements, we will help you apply for one through our partner agency and associated expenses will be covered.
- You will need to complete our short safeguarding training course.
- You will need to hold a Prevent duty certificate. If you do not have one that meets our requirements, we will provide a short training to complete.
- Prior to being approved as an examiner, you will be trained in the administration of the assessments, will need to pass a training quiz, and successfully complete a practice assessment to a minimum standard.
