  • Travel award applications must include the following:

    • Curriculum vitae
    • Personal statement (not to exceed 1 page) indicating eligibility for the award, interest in substance use research, and how the meeting will advance the applicant's education/career 
    • Letter of support from a supervisor, mentor, or department chair
    • Abstract (submitted in the "Abstract" section)
       

    Please refer to the Travel Award Information page for additional information, eligibility requirements and expectations for each award.

     

    To avoid processing refunds, at the time of applying for a travel award, please only pay the $25 abstract fee. No other conference registration fees are necessary to be considered for an award.

  • Abstracts must describe the results of original, unpublished research that involves collecting and analyzing data. Abstracts must include the following: rationale, hypothesis, species, number of subjects, procedures (methods and statistical analyses), results, and conclusions (importance of findings). Each abstract can only be submitted on behalf of one presenting individual (i.e. one abstract equals one presenting registration fee).

    Please follow these instructions carefully:

      • Abstracts must fit in the box as specified in the Abstract Submission Form (height 5”, width 6.5”).
      • Font: Arial, Size 11 point.
      • Title should be BOLD.
      • On a line below the title, list the last name, first name middle initial and the affiliations of each author. Presenting author should be first author.
      • Abstracts that are not formatted properly will not be accepted.
      • Abstracts will appear in the program exactly as entered.

     

    • When uploading, please title abstracts “Last Name_First Name_Abstract” (ex. Smith_John_Abstract)

    The following questions are asked to satisfy National Institutes of Health (NIH) funding and reporting requirements. Answers received for this portion of registration will not be tied to your name/general information collected.

    1. Were or currently are homeless, as defined by the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act;
    2. Were or currently are in the foster care system, as defined by the Administration for Children and Families;
    3. Were eligible for the Federal Free and Reduced Lunch Program for two or more years;
    4. Have/had no parents or legal guardians who completed a bachelor’s degree (see First-Generation and Continuing-Generation College Students: A Comparison of High School and Postsecondary Experiences);
    5. Were or currently are eligible for Federal Pell grants;
    6. Received support from the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) as a parent or child;
    7. Grew up in one of the following areas: a) a U.S. rural area, as designated by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Rural Health Grants Eligibility Analyzer, or b) a Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services-designated Low-Income and Health Professional Shortage Areas (qualifying zip codes are included in the file). Only one of the two possibilities in #7 can be used as a criterion for the disadvantaged background definition.

    • If you do not reach a page with a green check mark or receive a confirmation email upon clicking submit, your registration form was not received! Please contact us if you are unsure whether your registration was received.

      Upon clicking "Submit" you will be taken to a confirmation page. The "Submit Payment" button on that page will take you to cashnet where you will be able to pay for the appropriate registration. 

      If you are a UTHSCSA Employee, submitting payment via IDT, no payment information should be processed.
