BW Tech – ECU Remapping & Diagnostic Services
Terms & Conditions
By signing this document, I confirm that I have read, understood and agree to the following:
1. Vehicle Modifications
I understand that ECU remapping and/or diagnostic work involves modifying the vehicle's electronic control systems. These modifications may increase stress on vehicle components including, but not limited to, the engine, turbocharger, clutch, gearbox, drivetrain, differential, fuel system, cooling system and associated systems.
2. Mechanical Risk
I understand that performance modifications may reduce the lifespan of mechanical and electrical components and may increase the likelihood of component failure, particularly where parts are already worn, damaged or defective. I accept these risks.
3. Vehicle Condition
A health check and diagnostic scan will be carried out before any work begins where reasonably possible.
I understand this inspection is not a comprehensive mechanical examination and cannot identify every existing or developing fault.
The technician cannot be held responsible for faults or failures caused by pre-existing wear, damage, poor maintenance, hidden defects or unrelated mechanical or electrical issues that become apparent before, during or after the work.
4. Diagnostic Fee & Unsuccessful Remapping
I understand that not every vehicle is suitable for ECU remapping. A remap may not be possible due to circumstances beyond the technician's control, including but not limited to:
Existing mechanical or electrical faults
Unsupported or previously modified ECU software
ECU communication failures
Manufacturer software restrictions or security updates
Hardware defects
Failed programming checks
Poor battery voltage or unstable vehicle power supply
Poor overall vehicle condition
Where a remap cannot be completed after diagnostic work, testing or attempted programming has been carried out, I understand that a diagnostic/assessment fee of £70 will still be payable to cover the technician's time, labour, specialist equipment and expertise.
The technician will explain the reason why the remap could not be completed wherever reasonably possible.
No diagnostic fee will be charged where the technician determines, before commencing any programming or diagnostic work, that the requested service cannot be carried out.
5. Vehicle Performance
I understand that ECU calibration may affect:
Fuel economy
Power output
Torque
Emissions
Drivability
Reliability
Actual results will vary depending on vehicle condition, maintenance history, fuel quality, driving style and environmental conditions.
6. Legal Compliance
I understand that certain modifications may affect compliance with UK Road Traffic legislation, emissions regulations or MOT requirements.
It is my responsibility to ensure my vehicle remains legal for road use following any modification.
7. Insurance
I understand it is my responsibility to notify my insurance provider of any modifications made to my vehicle.
8. Test Drive
Where necessary, the technician may carry out a road test before and/or after programming to verify correct vehicle operation and check for any immediate faults.
9. Faults After Programming
If a fault develops following programming, further diagnosis may be required.
The customer understands that additional diagnostic work or repairs may be chargeable unless the fault is proven to have resulted directly from the technician's workmanship or programming.
The technician cannot be held responsible for unrelated mechanical or electrical failures that occur following the completion of the work.
10. Software Reinstatement
If I am dissatisfied with the remap, I may request that my vehicle be returned to its previous state within 30 days of the invoice date where technically possible.
Any software alterations requested after the 30-day period will incur additional charges.
11. Limitation of Liability
Nothing within these Terms excludes or limits liability for:
Death or personal injury caused by negligence.
Fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation.
Any liability that cannot legally be excluded under UK law.
Subject to the above, the technician's liability shall be limited to correcting defects arising directly from the services provided.
The technician shall not be liable for:
Pre-existing faults
Mechanical or electrical failures unrelated to the remap
Normal wear and tear
Vehicle recovery costs
Loss of earnings
Vehicle hire costs
Loss of use
Indirect or consequential losses
12. Refund Policy
Tap to Pay / Card Payments
Refunds processed through SumUp can only be returned to the original payment method.
Cash alternatives cannot be provided.
Depending on the customer's financial institution, refunds may take up to 10 business days to appear.
Cash Payments
Refunds for cash payments exceeding £80 may be issued by bank transfer.
Please allow 3–5 working days, excluding weekends and public holidays.
13. Software Ownership
All ECU calibration files, software, maps and associated intellectual property remain the property of BW Tech unless otherwise agreed in writing.
These files may not be copied, distributed, reverse engineered, modified or reused without prior written permission.
14. Additional Travel & Parking Charges
Where work is carried out at the customer's location, the customer agrees to reimburse BW Tech for any reasonable costs incurred as a direct result of attending the appointment, including but not limited to:
Parking charges
Resident or visitor parking permits
Pay-and-display parking fees
Private car park charges
Congestion Charge
Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) charges
Low Emission Zone (LEZ) charges
Toll road or bridge charges
These charges will be added to the final invoice or must be paid before the vehicle is returned or the work is deemed complete. Where possible, the customer will be informed of any anticipated charges before work commences.
15. Customer Declaration
I confirm that:
I am the legal owner of the vehicle or have authority to authorise this work.
The information I have provided regarding the vehicle is accurate.
I have disclosed all known faults, warning lights and previous modifications.
To the best of my knowledge, the vehicle has no undisclosed faults regarding any major mechanical or emissions components, unless previously disclosed prior to booking
I understand the risks associated with ECU remapping.
I accept these Terms & Conditions.
I authorise BW Tech to carry out the agreed work.
16. Technician Declaration
The technician confirms that all work has been carried out with reasonable care and skill, using appropriate equipment, software and procedures to the best of their knowledge and ability.
