  • In the 1990s and possibly earlier, industrial chemicals were released into the water and soil in Pullman. Some of these chemicals were later found in some private wells. The area where the chemicals were found was called “the plume.” Over the years, those chemicals may have spread to other areas or faded away.

Beautify Pullman has received a grant to find out what the situation is today. We want to know if any of the old contamination is still in the water or soil, if it has spread, or if it has disappeared over time. We are working with experts to test soil, monitor groundwater, and understand what contaminants, if any, remain. The outcome of this project will be a clearer picture of Pullman’s groundwater, a better understanding of where new or replacement wells can be drilled, and the information needed to plan future steps if they are needed.

As part of this project, we’d like to hear from you. Your experiences and thoughts can help us understand how this issue has affected our community. Please take a few minutes to fill out our survey. Your answers are anonymous unless you choose to share your contact information.
