Frog & Toad Kids
Music by Robert Reale
Lyrics by Willie Reale
Based on Books by Arnold Lobel
Adapted from the three-time-Tony-nominated Broadway hit comes A Year with Frog and Toad KIDS. Based on Arnold Lobel's well-loved books, the jazzy, upbeat score bubbles with melody. Part vaudeville, part make-believe, and all charm, A Year with Frog and Toad KIDS tells the story of a friendship that endures throughout the seasons. This whimsical show follows two great friends – the cheerful, popular Frog, and the rather grumpy Toad – through four fun-filled seasons. Waking from hibernation, Frog and Toad plant gardens, swim, rake leaves, go sledding and learn life lessons along the way. Throughout the year, two best friends celebrate and rejoice in the differences that make them unique and special.

MONOLOGUES
Frog
Ah, spring! My favorite time of year. Everything smells fresh and new, like the world just woke up from a nice, long nap. I love this part—right when the snow melts and the grass starts peeking out again. The birds come back, the sun feels warm, and I get to visit my best friend, Toad. Now, Toad doesn’t like getting out of bed. He says, “Five more minutes, Frog!” But if I didn’t go knock on his door, he’d sleep right through spring!
Toad
I was having a perfectly good nap. Cozy blanket, nice dream, quiet house. And then—knock, knock, knock! It’s Frog. “Toad!” he says. “Wake up! It’s spring! Spring! Hmph. I was perfectly happy dreaming about cookies. But Frog wouldn’t stop smiling. He said, “The sun is shining! The flowers are blooming! The birds are singing!” So I got up. I grumbled, of course—I am Toad. But when I opened the door, I saw the green grass, and I smelled the air, and—well—it did feel nice. Don’t tell Frog, but… I’m glad he woke me up. Maybe spring isn’t so bad… after all.
Snail
Some people think being a snail is boring. Oh no! It’s very exciting! You see, I have the most important job in the world. I deliver the mail! Rain or shine, I go. Even if it takes a few days… or weeks… or… months. But when I finally reach Frog’s mailbox, and I slide that letter in, oh! It feels amazing! Everyone needs to know someone cares about them. And that’s what letters do. I may be slow, but I always get there. Eventually.
Bird
I flew back this morning, all the way from the south, and guess what I saw? Snow—still melting! I spotted Frog down by the pond, brushing off a lily pad like it was brand new. And Toad—well, Toad was standing in the doorway with his blanket still wrapped around him. Typical. I almost called out, “Come on, you two! The sun’s up!” But they looked happy, just waking up slow. Still, I might start singing tomorrow—just to make sure they don’t go back to sleep!
