This driving policy exists to support the safety, wellbeing, and accountability of all boarding students, while also ensuring a secure and well-managed residential environment. While we acknowledge the independence and responsibility that come with having access to a vehicle, the school has a duty of care to prioritise the safety of all students. These guidelines are intended to minimise risk, prevent misuse, and help maintain an appropriate balance between personal freedom and supervision. By clearly outlining expectations around vehicle access and use, we aim to protect students, build trust, and uphold the values of our school community.
No student is to drive a vehicle to school without first obtaining permission to drive to and park their vehicle on the school grounds. Permission is obtained by completing the Driving Permission Form - Boarders on the TAS Website.
Upon arrival at TAS, the driver is to report to his or her Head of House and surrender their keys, which will be returned prior to departure.
No day student vehicles are to be on the School premises under any circumstances. This rule applies to school days, school holidays and weekends.
All boarders vehicles are to be parked in the marked car spaces at Abbott and Croft Houses or in the back half of the Tennis Court Car Park.
The School does not accept responsibility for any loss or damage to vehicles while parked on school grounds.
All vehicles on or around the School are totally out of bounds to all but the owners/drivers.
Between arrival and departure, vehicles are out of bounds to their drivers (except with the Head of House and/or Director of Boardings permission).
No student may give a lift to any other student unless parental consent, in writing from the parent of the passenger and driver, is obtained and approved by the Head of House and/or Director of Boarding.
Any breach of these rules or of normal traffic regulations, or any use of the vehicle which is considered by staff to be dangerous or ostentatious, will result in the immediate withdrawal of the driving privilege.
The vehicle is to be used for the purpose of transporting the driver to and from approved leave, for school purposes (university studies, trade subjects), and for appointments in town (doctor/physio etc) only.
This leave must be specified in REACH leave requests using the transport mode of 'drive private vehicle' and written details mentioned in the notes of the leave request.
This leave must be fully approved by the Parent and Host of the student before the Head of House will consider approving.
All leave involving vehicles must be submitted on Reach at least 48 hours prior to vehicle use. In the advent of an emergency only, the HoH and/or DoB may approve vehicle use with shorter notice.
