  • General Information

    • Scholarships totaling $3,000 will be split and granted to three (3) applicants. Each scholarship is for $1,000.
    • Recipients are chosen based on a culmination of merit, financial need, and community involvement.
    • Immediate family members of the Vietnamese Association executive boards are not eligible to apply.

    • Applicant must be a descendant of Vietnam.
    • Applicant must be a rising college freshman/sophomore who is enrolled for Fall 2026.
    • Applicant must have resided in either NC or SC for the past year.

      Financial need is often met with creative solutions. Describe the steps you have already taken to fund your education, such as employment, budgeting, or seeking other aid. How will this scholarship complement those efforts?

    • PART 2: PERSONAL ESSAY

      Please submit an essay on one of the topics listed below:

      • Describe a specific time you volunteered or gave back to the Vietnamese community. What did that experience show you about the community's needs, and how did it shape the way you think about your own education?
      • College is a big transition, especially when you're navigating it alongside your Vietnamese heritage. Share a moment where those two things intersected, whether it was a challenge you faced or something you're proud of.
      • Think about someone in your family who gave up a career, a home, or a dream so you could have more opportunities. How has their story influenced the way you live and the choices you make today?

      Your essay should be 1 page in length, double-spaced, and 12 point font.

      2. Personal Authenticity & AI Usage
      Our committee prioritizes your unique perspective and your genuine connection to the Vietnamese community. We want to hear your story, not a machine’s interpretation of it.

      • Original Work: Your personal essay must be your own original creation.
      • Generative AI Policy: The use of Generative AI (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini) to brainstorm, structure, or write your essay is strictly prohibited. Digital tools may only be used for standard spelling and grammar corrections.
      • Verification: To ensure a level playing field, the committee uses a combination of AI detection tools and human review. Applications that lack specific personal anecdotes, rely on generic cultural tropes, or exhibit the structural hallmarks of AI-generated text will be penalized or disqualified at the committee’s discretion.

      3. Merit & Financial Need Evaluation
      This scholarship is awarded based on a holistic assessment of both academic/community merit and self-reportedfinancial need.

We rely on the integrity of our applicants to ensure these resources are allocated fairly to those within our community who require them most.

      4. Community & Academic Standing
      We invest in students who represent the Vietnamese community with honor and leadership.

      • Requirements: Applicants are expected to maintain "Good Academic Standing" as defined by their respective institution.
      • Conduct: The committee reserves the right to rescind an award if a recipient is found in violation of their university’s Code of Conduct or engages in activities that bring disrepute to the scholarship program.

      5. Finality of Decisions
      To ensure an objective process, all applications are evaluated by an independent 3-member review board using a standardized 100-point rubric.
