  • This award recognizes individuals who have made an extraordinary impact in the field of safety over the duration of their career. It is a once in a lifetime award so no individual may receive this award more than once.

    Contributions that have significantly advanced the safety profession

    To qualify, the candidate must meet the following screening criteria:

    ·         More than 10 years in Safety profession or leadership role
    ·         3 – year OSHA Incidence Rate of .6 or less (Plant sites must include contractor totals)
    ·         3 – year Lost Workday Rate of .2 or less (Plant sites must include contractor totals)
    ·         Zero fatalities in previous 5 years (TRMA Member Plants; TRMA plants for contractors)
    ·         Zero injuries in past year (TRMA Member Plants; TRMA plants for contractors)
    ·         In the past award year (Jan. – Dec.), did the plant or contractor company experience an incident involving:
                 ·   Failure to isolate hazardous energy
                 ·   Opening process equipment improperly
                 ·   Improperly prepared confined space entry
                 ·   Improperly prepared excavation
                 ·   Fall from height
                 ·   Contact/exposure to hazardous materials
                 ·   Crane or rigging failure
                 ·   Caught by machinery, struck by equipment or falling object
                 ·   Failure to verify work permit
                 ·   Failure to choose correct PPE
                 ·   Deliberate bypassing of safeguards
                 ·   Community evacuation or sheltering event
    ·         Emphasis will be on consistent improvement

      Judging Criteria: 

    ·         Pass initial screening criteria
    ·         In a Safety or Leadership position
    ·         Consistently demonstrates safety behaviors
    ·         Shares the safety vision and is an effective communicator
    ·         Is credible
    ·         Is collaborative
    ·         Is accountable and holds others accountable for safety

    Each submission must include:

    ·         Individual being nominated
    ·         Name, email, phone # of individual making the nomination
    ·         Description of significant contribution which has advanced the Safety Profession
    ·         Summary of how nominee has contributed to the Safety Profession and meets judging criteria
    ·         Minimum of two references who will corroborate the nomination
