    NewComm Engaged Members Application 2026-2027

  • Engaged Members are students who collaborate with Fellows to design, execute, and sustain local projects while tapping into resources, partnerships, and learning opportunities throughout the NewComm ecosystem.

    Engaged Members are co-constructors of the design studio's annual $10,000 community impact project.

    At NewComm, we invest in students who want to be forces of positive change in their communities and to transform classroom education into real world legacy. We are looking for students who exhibit the following qualitites:

    • Communication (clarity, consideration of others, problem solving, and critical thinking)
    • Cultural competence (embracing different cultures and perspectives)
    • Commitment (able to balance academic and personal obligations with the demands of the project development)
    • Innovation (generating new ideas and creative thinking)
    • Passion for advocacy

  • The $10,000 project is developed by three working groups:

    Program Development designs the actual community intervention - deciding what problem to address, how to solve it, and what the project will look like in practice.

    Marketing and Advertising creates the communications strategy to engage community members and stakeholders, developing promotional materials and outreach plans.

    External Partners identifies and builds relationships with organizations, businesses, and community groups that can support or collaborate on the project.
