NewComm Engaged Members Application 2026-2027
Engaged Members are students who collaborate with Fellows to design, execute, and sustain local projects while tapping into resources, partnerships, and learning opportunities throughout the NewComm ecosystem.

Engaged Members are co-constructors of the design studio's annual $10,000 community impact project.

At NewComm, we invest in students who want to be forces of positive change in their communities and to transform classroom education into real world legacy. We are looking for students who exhibit the following qualitites:
- Communication (clarity, consideration of others, problem solving, and critical thinking)
- Cultural competence (embracing different cultures and perspectives)
- Commitment (able to balance academic and personal obligations with the demands of the project development)
- Innovation (generating new ideas and creative thinking)
- Passion for advocacy

The $10,000 project is developed by three working groups:

Program Development designs the actual community intervention - deciding what problem to address, how to solve it, and what the project will look like in practice.

Marketing and Advertising creates the communications strategy to engage community members and stakeholders, developing promotional materials and outreach plans.

External Partners identifies and builds relationships with organizations, businesses, and community groups that can support or collaborate on the project.

Commitment Agreements

These are specific to the role of an Engaged Member and differ from General Member and Fellow commitments.
I agree with the following statements:*

I will attend Members' Weekend (June 26-28 2026).I will attend monthly in-person Design Studios (Saturday 12:00-3:30PM) to contribute to developing the $10,000 project.I will join virtual committee meetings for project development.I will attend at least one other NewComm event per month (Including Community Roundtables, Supper Clubs, Industry Studio internship days, SAT Prep Classes, etc.)I understand that as an engaged member of NewComm, I play a crucial role in supporting the Fellows as they develop the annual $10,000 project. I am committing to being an active and contributing member in a project committee where I will leverage my skills to build and progress the project.I will inform my parents about my NewComm membership and direct them to NewComm's website if they have any questions. They will have the option to attend the NewComm members' parent orientation in May/June.I understand that I must maintain appropriate conduct during and outside of NewComm gatherings and events as a member representative of the organization. If I violate NewComm's discipline code, I may be excluded in the future by NewComm, Inc from participating in other events.I understand that alcoholic beverages and/or illegal drugs are prohibited on during NewComm events. I understand that if I am found in possession of these substances, I will be subject to my school's disciplinary procedures and possible criminal prosecution.
