As we begin the program, we are asking all participants to complete the following online survey. Program participants will be asked to complete a survey at the beginning of the program and once again when the program is completed. The survey is anonymous and confidential. We are hoping to learn about various aspects of the program participants' experiences at college and some of the stresses and challenges that they may face. By asking the same questions at the end of the program, we are hoping to see if there are any reported differences by program participants. This may inform us about the benefits of this program for student caregivers.
You are being asked to complete the following survey. The survey will take approximately 10 minutes. The survey will ask about stress, challenges, your confidence in your academic achievements, and your level of motivation.
Any information about you and/or your email address will be stored on an encrypted hard drive in the private office of the researcher and only the researcher will have access to this information.
POTENTIAL RISKS AND DISCOMFORTS
All answers provided during the research project are confidential. None of the partner agencies will know that you completed this survey.
POTENTIAL BENEFITS TO PARTICIPANTS AND/OR TO SOCIETY
As a participant, your participation will inform and deepen the understanding of the needs of students who have dependents and how the college system can better support these individuals. Your input may also shape future aspects of the program, thereby helping future students.
Any information that is obtained in connection with this study and that can be identified with you will remain confidential and will be disclosed only with your permission. All of the survey answers will remain confidential and anonymous. We will only report the aggregate answers associated with all of the survey responses. None of the partner agencies, Mohawk College, Hamilton Public Library or Neighbour 2 Neighbour will know if you completed the survey or not.
All results from this study will only be reported as simple concepts and/or themes with no identifying information. A one-page summary of findings will be shared with participants in the study. Findings may also be presented at conferences, webinars, or in academic journals.
You can choose whether to be in this study or not. Participants can withdraw from the study at any point by contacting the Researchers at Andrea.johnson4@mohawkcollege.ca. You may also refuse to answer any questions you don't want to answer and still remain in the study.
RIGHTS OF RESEARCH PARTICIPANTS
If you experience feelings of discomfort or distress when completing the survey we encourage you to seek support. Available resources include the support line ConnexOntario which provides free and confidential services for people experiencing mental illness, Victim Support Line which offers 24/7 access to information and referrals for victims of crime across Ontario, or 211 Ontario helpline which connects people to community, social, health-related and government agencies in their area.
