EXHIBITION AND ARTIST INFO:
The Oak Cliff Cultural Center a division of the City of Dallas Office of Arts and Culture and the Trinity Audubon River Audubon Center (TRAC) are proud to present a sculptural installation by Bonny Leibowitz at the Trinity River Audubon Center. The public is invited to attend an artist talk by Leibowitz and guided nature hike located at TRAC on December 13 from 10:00 – 11:00 AM. The work will be on view through January 10, 2026
Focusing on nature as an “ever-evolving system intricately intertwined with human culture”, Leibowitz constructs hybrid objects and installations that blur boundaries between the manufactured and the organic. Her large-scale installations combine mangled steel, plastics, salvaged architectural materials, tree roots, and branches with photographs depicting the aftermath of demolished buildings and storms. Informed by Post-Naturalism and fragmented memories of land and place, Leibowitz’ work functions as “facsimiles of nature” considering complex dynamics around environmental stories, histories, and constructed narratives.
In conjunction with her show Adventures in Plunderland at the Oak Cliff Cultural Center, Leibowitz’ installation at TRAC continues her exploration of the relationships between humans and nature. Built on an illegal toxic waste dump and located downstream from Dallas’ Trinity River, TRAC is often a site where discarded objects turn up due to heavy rain and flooding. For her installation at Trinity River Audubon Center, Leibowitz reconfigures a previous installation, combining it with wire refuse found at TRAC along with a new sculpture for the public lot outside the center bringing renewed attention to the site’s history.
Originally from Philadelphia, Leibowitz lives and works in Dallas, TX. She studied at Temple University at Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia, PA. Her work has been included in solo and group exhibitions nationally. Reviews of her work have been featured in notable publications including Southwest Contemporary Vol. 10 – Radical Futures and Modern Dallas. Leibowitz is a recipient of the Nasher Sculpture Center 2024 Nasher Artist Grant and was awarded a 2026 solo exhibition at Women and Their Work in Austin, TX.
The Trinity River Audubon Center is located at 6500 Great Trinity Forest Way, Dallas, TX 75217. Operating hours are Tuesday – Sunday, 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM.
