Code of Behaviour
Principles
Everyone working with Worcestershire Homeless Appeal has a responsibility to ensure that everyone participating in Worcestershire Homeless Appeals activities, particularly children, young people and vulnerable adults, are protected from harm.
It is the responsibility of each adult working with Worcestershire Homeless Appeal to ensure that:
- their behaviour is appropriate at all times
- they observe the rules established for the safety and security of all
- they recognise the position of trust in which they have been placedand in every respect the relationships they form with others are appropriate
All persons who wish to work with Worcestershire Homeless Appeal, must accept and understand this policy.
Meeting your responsibilities
To give positive guidance, the Code of Behaviour (below) provides a list of 'do's and don'ts' to help you ensure that:
- the welfare of all, and particularly the children and/or young people and/or vulnerable adults for whom you have a duty of care, is safeguarded
- you avoid compromising situations or opportunities for misunderstandings or allegations
Code of behaviour
1:Your Conduct
a) DO treat everyone with dignity and respect
b) DO set an example you would wish others to follow
c) DO treat everyone equally and equitably
d) DO respect everyone’s right to personal privacy
e) DO remember someone else might misinterpret your actions, no matter how well-intentioned
f) DO provide four weeks’ notice of any upcoming holiday to the Trustees to allow cover to be organised
g) DON’T make suggestive remarks or threats, even in fun;
h) DON’T use inappropriate language – speaking, writing, phoning, email or internet.
i) DON’T show favouritism.
j) DON’T take any donations from the charity for yourself unless agreed and approved by a Trustee. Instances of this will be considered as theft.
k) DON’T exchange any items in your designated food parcel for others of a different make or quality. Instances of this will be considered as theft.
l) DON’T make assumptions or decisions on behalf of the Charity unless they have been approved by a Trustee and you have been instructed by them.
2:Other People’s Behaviour
a) DO encourage others to challenge any attitudes or behaviours they do not like;
b) DON’T trivialise abuse
c) DON’T tolerate bullying
Disciplinary measures
Where behaviour and conduct fall below what is expected of this policy, the Trustees will investigate and agree what disciplinary action is to be taken. Any action will take the form of either a two-week suspension of volunteering duties, or for repeat/gross misconduct offences permanent termination of volunteering duties.
The charity will not tolerate items being taken without permission from the Trustees, and any instances of this will be treated as theft and dealt with accordingly. These actions undermine the core values and purpose of the charity and only hurt the people we are trying to help
