  • OPEN CALL: Loop Art Critique & Jillian Mayer

    • Invitation: Media artists are invited to join a special Critique Club with Loop Art Critique and Guest artist Jillian Mayer
    • Focus: Discussions centered on artists' current and in-progress artwork and practices. Loop staff and Guest Artist Jillian Mayer will provide feedback along with fellow participants.
    • Objective: To assist artists through private feedback sessions in a supportive small group setting, drawing on the time-honored tradition of collective art salons. Artists share information and insights with each other to foster a collaborative learning environment.
    • Software and Exhibition Support: Artists will be provided with XR Studio software. This is a browser based software that enables artists to create custom 'verses within the Loop Metaverse. The software is generously donated by Onland.io for 6 months, to all Loop Critique Club artists. 
    • Private Critique Club: Selected artists will participate in a 6-week critique club that meets 2x a week in the Loop metaverse on Mondays and Thursdays from 12pm to 3pm EST. 
    • Please make sure this fits into your schedule. Participants must come to a minimum of 50% of meetings to be included in Exhibition. 
    • Exhibition: the residency will culminate in a collectively curated show by the artists. Support for creating this exhibition is provided by Loop staff and by Onland.io's XR Studio software. 
    • Anonymous Selection: Submissions will be reviewed anonymously by our juror, Jillian Mayer, who will also attend some live critiques.
      • The juror will not see the artist's name or any identifiying info. If included on a pdf, it will be removed.
    • Criteria: We are looking for artists who utilize digital tools, interactive media, video, and immersive technologies, as well as traditional media that can be integrated into a spatial internet environment.
      • Artists without deep understanding of digital art practices are welcome. 
      • The theme is personhood, legacy, and object making, artists who relate to the theme are encouraged to apply.
    • Dates:
      • Artists Selected: January 12th  
      • Cohort meet & Greet: January 23rd 
      • Critique session: January 26th - March 6th 
      • Preparation for exhibition: March 9th - 20th 
      • Exhibition opens: March 26th 
      • Exhibition closes:June May 25th 

         

  • Submission Requirements: 

    Attach a maxium of 5 images, videos, links, documentation of sculpture, installation, written materials. You may attach a PDF containing links to your work. If attaching a PDF or link to video, it must not have your name on it, and the links cannot lead to a place that shows your name. This includes pseudonyms.

  • This is an anonymous submission. That means you will not be asked to provide an artist statement, resume, CV, or biography, and your artwork should not have your name on it.
    The judge will be shown artwork labeled with random letters & numbers. Only after judging will the names be revealed. Choosing to remain Anonymous/Pseudonymous is supported and respected but not required.

  • Loop Art Critique Explanation:
    Loop Art Critique (LAC) is a gesamtunwerk artwork that offers a 6 week private critique club and public showcase for artists. Applicants respond to an Open Call and are selected by guest jurors without revealing their identities, as no names, biographical information or artist statements are required—only the artwork is reviewed. Because LAC operates within a virtual space, most artwork submissions are digital. However, physical artworks can be submitted with the understanding that they will be viewed as digital representations.

    Profit Status: LAC is a non-commercial artwork initiated by a single artist and sustained through personal funding and a partnership with The MUD Foundation, a non-profit focused on Art & Technology located in Miami, FL USA. 

    Loop Staff: There are 3 artists who are Loop Staff and support artists through leading the critiques, posting on social media and newsletters and joining in with critique discussions. There is also a dedicated tech support team generously provided by The MUD Foundaiton. 

    Anonymity: LAC believes that artists have a right to remain anonymous throughout the submission and critique process in order to focus on their artwork. It is optional. 


    Location/Platform: LAC is hosted on Onland, a spatial internet environment created by the The MUD Foundation. It does not have corporate affiliations. Loop.onland.io

    Educational Aspect: LAC is not formally educational but includes moderated critiques, offering artists valuable feedback from their peers. A Discord server is utilized to archive links, feedback and faciliate communication.
