Giving God's Word - Christmas Bible Outreach Program

The Newton County Judge's Office would like to launch a Christmas outreach initiative called Newton County C.A.R.E.S. (Compassionate Actions Reaching Every Soul) as part of our season of giving and service.

This program's mission is simple: to share the living Word of God with those who are incarcerated. The Bible reminds us in Psalm 119:105, "Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.' For many who are behind bars, this season can be one of isolation, regret, and sorrow. The hours, days and weeks spent incarcerated can easily turn to sadness, hopelessness, and despair, especially during the Christmas season when family and faith feel distant. But God's Word has the power to transform even the darkest cell into a place of light, peace, and renewal.

As it is written in John 8:32, "And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." Even when the body is confined, the soul can find freedom in the truth of God's Word. It is our prayer that every Bible placed in an inmate's hands this Christmas will plant a seed of peace, repentance, and redemption that God Himself will water in due season.

To ensure full cooperation with the jail facility's policies, our proposed gift list includes:

    1 Bible

    1 notebook (no spiral, metal)

    1 pen

    1 highlighter

1 Blank Christmas Card with stamp (for them to send to family)

It would be best for us to leave the items unsealed for inspection by jail staff so please use a small sized gift bag with only the approved items inside.

Our intent is to fully comply with all safety and security standards while extending a simple yet meaningful gift of hope for the holidays. Should there be any remaining donations, we would like to share them with our neighbors in Jasper County.

We believe this initiative reflects the heart of Newton County - compassion, faith, and service - and most importantly, it reflects the heart of God, who calls us in Matthew 25:36 to remember those who are imprisoned: "I was in prison, and ye came unto me."

We thank anyone who would like to participate and ask you to bring your gift to the Newton County Judge's Office befor December 16, 2025. May this outreach remind all of us that the light of Christ shines brightest when shared with those who need it most.

With gratitude and prayers for a blessed Christmas season,

Ronald J. Cochran, Newton County Judge
