  • Parent Partnership and Parent Code of Conduct

    Parent Responsibility and Partnership
The community of parents includes all who are committed to actively supporting our philosophy of Christian education. The primary responsibility for the education of children rests with the parent; teachers act only in the place of parents, making a strong partnership vital for program success. Our community includes all who actively support the growth, development, and spiritual formation of our children within our Christian educational philosophy.

When the goals of the family align with the goals of the school, the educational experience is both successful and rewarding for everyone involved. Therefore, we ask parents to prayerfully consider whether their family’s goals reflect the mission and values of the school each year and to indicate their commitment by signing the Parent Code of Conduct during registration. If a family’s actions or attitudes demonstrate that their goals no longer align with those of the school, their society status may be placed under review or withdrawn, which may affect their ability to re-enroll their child(ren) the following year.

The Brant Christian School Parent Code of Conduct
BCS is privileged to have a committed community where staff, board members, and parents partner in the education and spiritual discipleship of children. We maintain positive relationships and are committed to resolving difficulties constructively through open, positive communication based on biblical principles of peacemaking and reconciliation.

Our school values and culture require that all members of our school community can expect to be treated reasonably and with respect. The BCS administrator (as a representative of Palliser School Division) and the Brant Christian School Society Board members have a duty of care to employees and volunteers to protect them from rude, intimidating, abusive, aggressive, or threatening behavior.

    Expected Conduct

We expect parents and visitors to:
    • Respect the values and culture of the school, encompassing relationships with staff and volunteers.
    • Demonstrate that all members of the school community are to be treated with respect and dignity.
    • Respect and cooperate with the school’s policies, processes, procedures and rules.
    • Recognize that school staff are endeavoring to act in the best interests of the child(ren).
    • Respond calmly when any incident is reported by a child or young person and contact the school to clarify what has happened, so that issues can be resolved swiftly and positively.
    • Use our Communication Outline (available in the Parent Handbook) for the flow of communication to raise concerns and complaints.

    Unacceptable Conduct

Unacceptable conduct includes, but is not limited to:
    • Disruptive behavior which interferes with, or threatens to interfere with, the normal business of the school.
    • Speaking in an aggressive or threatening tone.
    • Abusive or aggressive communications (applies to personal interactions and all telephone, email, text, letter, or social media communications).
    • Behavior which causes staff or volunteers to feel uncomfortable or unsafe.
    • Threats of non-violent action designed to intimidate staff or volunteers.
    • Defamatory, offensive, or derogatory comments (direct or implied) about any member of the school or it’s community, including unfounded and/or blanket comments about the professional competency or motivation of staff or volunteers.
    • Approaching someone else’s child in order to chastise them.
    • Complaints/communications being deemed vexatious.

    Consequences for Unacceptable Behavior

    Unacceptable behavior may result in:
    • A letter from the school or Society Board requesting that the behavior ceases.
    • An invitation to attend a meeting to discuss and address the behavior.
    • A ban on entering school premises.
    • Information being passed to the police, or police being called to remove people from the premises.
    • The school taking legal or local law enforcement’s advice.
    • Suspension and/or the removal of Society membership.
    • Family’s reenrollment for future years revoked.
    • Community members and students whose actions or attitudes are found to be inconsistent with the Code of Conduct may have their society membership temporarily placed under review or withdrawn.

With God’s help I will do my best to do the following:
    • I will ensure that my child(ren) regularly attend(s) school and arrive at school on time.
    • I will ensure that my lifestyle is in line with the expectations in the Parent Covenant and I will diligently encourage my child(ren) to follow the Student Covenant.
    • I will practice the principle found in Matthew 18, resolving any difficulties with school personnel directly and in a timely manner, within 14 days if possible. We will direct any concerns or questions to the person(s) responsible for it, in grace and patience. If the conflict is unresolved, I/we will discuss the matter with the next person in authority. Generally, the line of authority is as follows: teacher, principal, and the Society Board.

I will communicate with the BCS staff and Society Board members in ways that exemplify Christlikeness such as outlined by the Apostle Paul in the book of Ephesians, including demonstrating:

    • “All humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace” (Ephesians 4:2, ESV)
    • Communication that “...is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear” (Ephesians 4:29, ESV)
    • Being “...kind to one another, tenderhearted...” (Ephesians 4:32, ESV)

    • I will support the school in maintaining a high standard of Christian conduct for its students. I acknowledge the position of the school is that student behavior at all times and in all places reflects on his/her parents, BCS, and the much broader cause of Christianity. No attempt will be made by the school to usurp my responsibility for the discipline of my child(ren); however, when information regarding unacceptable out-of-school behavior is freely discussed at school by students, it will be considered an area of school responsibility.
    • We recognize the school’s right to dismiss any student who does not cooperate with the educational process, transportation policy, or behavioral expectations of the school.
    • I fully agree with the Statement of Faith of Brant Christian School and desire the school to work with us in the total education of our child(ren).
    • I will regularly attend functions requiring our participation, such as parent/student/teacher interviews, duly called meetings, and other society functions that are required. We will cooperate, where possible, in fundraising and work projects, and will regularly uphold Brant Christian School in prayer.
    • We understand that the Alternative Education Fee and bussing fees must be paid in advance and that the busing fees paid up to the end of the month in which a child is withdrawn are non-refundable.
    • We hereby authorize Brant Christian School to call an ambulance and arrange for emergency medical and surgical care in case we are not immediately available. Any qualified physician called by BCS may treat and do whatever is necessary for the health and wellbeing of our child(ren).

By signing this form, you acknowledge and agree to its contents.

    Christian Education:

Implicit in Christian education are these basic truths:

    a. Man does possess a spiritual dimension.

    b. Education involves the total being: spiritual, intellectual, physical, and social aspects of man, that is, the “whole man”.

    c. Each person possesses unique individual potential traits and needs.

    d. The educational experience must include a primary emphasis on the development of Christian beliefs, attitudes, character and skills.

    e. An integration of Biblical truth will be an inseparable and primary part of the total educational process. Christian concepts will be unified with, inseparable from and central to the academic program.

    f. Youth need a consistant influence while preparing to live in a complex society. Only the Bible has the answers to man’s needs and longings, and therefore will serve as our final authority on all questions.

    Skill Development:

All students, regardless of ability, should have the opportunity to develop skills in order to take meaningful roles in their community. Skill development enables students to realize their individual potential for service to others. Preparation for success in post-secondary education is vital because skills will often need to be developed through further education.

    Christian Community:

Community standards for staff and students participating in the alternative program at Brant Christian School will be modelled, and based on the clear teachings of the Bible.

I/We, agree with each point within the above Statement of Faith of Brant Christian School.
