  • The National Association of University Women, Inc. Flushing-North Shore Branch (NAUW-FNS) is seeking applicants for its 2026 Scholarship Awards. Please be advised that this award is given once to high school graduates who are entering their first year as a matriculated student at a 4-year College or University in Fall 2026.

    Please read the packet carefully and adhere to all listed instructions.

    All applicants must meet every criteria listed below:

    1. RESIDE OR ATTEND A SCHOOL whose zip code begins with 111 or 113. (Example: East Elmhurst, Corona, Jackson Heights, Astoria, Woodside, Flushing, LeFrak City, Forest Hills, Oakland Gardens, Rego Park, Elmhurst, Long Island City, Middle Village, Bayside, Fresh Meadows

    2. US Citizen or Legal Permanent Resident

    3. African American or African descent. Male and Female Students are Eligible to Apply.

    4. High School Seniors expecting to graduate by June 2026, who will attend a 4-year College or University in Fall 2026.

    5. Minimum GPA: C or 2.0/4.0 scale

    *Can be submitted with the application packet, or directly from the recommender’s official email address ON OR BEFORE the February 7th deadline.ALL ITEMS LISTED BELOW MUST BE SUBMITTED BY SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 7, 2026 OR THE APPLICANT WILL BE DISQUALIFIED FROM CONSIDERATION.

    A Completed and Electronically Signed Student Application Attach the following documents to the application:

    (2) Essays (500-750 words): Student Personal Statement and Student Volunteerism Essay

    (1) Recommendation Letter from either a Teacher, Guidance Counselor, or College Advisor* (1) Volunteer Service Recommendation Letter*

    (1) Cumulative High School Transcript

    (1) Passport Photo OR Yearbook Picture

    (1) Resume

    *This can be submitted with the application packet, or directly from the recommender's official email address ON OR BEFORE the February 7th deadline.

  • Once the application has been screened, eligible applicants MUST appear for an in person interview, dressed in business attire, at a date and time determined by the Scholarship Committee. If selected to receive a scholarship, your attendance is required, along with an acceptance speech at our in-person event:

    1. Describe a person (either a historical figure or a relative) or a creative work (as in art, music, science, etc that has had an influence on you, and explain that influence.

    2. Recount an incident or time when you experienced a challenge. How did it affect you, how did you overcome this challenge, and what lessons did you learn? Was there someone that helped you overcome this challenge and explain how they helped you? (NOTE: Growing and maturing is about learning from our challenges

    3. Describe your knowledge of the National Association of University Women Inc. and the Flushing-North Shore Branch. If you have attended or participated in any events hosted by the Flushing-North Shore Branch or any branch of the National Association of University Women Inc., please explain.
