• IMPORTANT INFORMATION PRIOR TO REGISTERING

    INTENSIVE COURSES CHECKLIST

     

    Thanks for your interest in registering for either the Intensive Bronze, SRC to Bronze or Surf Rescue Course (SRC). Please go through this checklist to ensure the following:

    • Course dates: Monday 19 January 2026 - Thursday 22 January 2026. 
    • Course times: 8.00am - 4.00pm
    • Course Venue: Bilgola SLSC
    • BRONZE: MUST complete a pre-requisite 400m swim in 9 minutes or less.
    • SRC TO BRONZE: MUST complete a pre-requisite 400m swim in 9 minutes or less
    • SRC: MUST complete a pre-requisite 200m swim in 5 minutes or less
    • The compulsory pre-requisite swim will be held on Monday 12 January  or Wednesday 14 January at North Narrabeen Rock Pool between 3.30pm - 4.00pm. Candidates are allowed to wear a wetsuit, goggles and a swimming cap.

     

    • Bronze Candidates must be 15 years of age at the time of assessment.
    • SRC to Bronze Transition Candidates must fulfil the requirements as noted on the Registration Form and must be 15 years of age at the time of assessment. IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE CANDIDATE TO ENSURE ALL REQUIREMENTS ARE MET (SURFGUARD REFLECTIVE).

     

    • SRC Candidates must be 13 years of age at the time of assessment

     

    • Any registered candidate who does not make the pre-requisite swim within the prescribed time will be given one other chance. Due to the intensive nature of this course, any candidate who is unable to make the pre-requisite swim on the second attempt will not be able to attend the course.  Therefore candidates who are unsure of their ability to make the pre-requisite time, should do their first attempt on Monday and their second on the Wednesday. 
    • If you are unsure, please time yourself to ensure you are able to achieve the pre-requisite time.

     

    • The email addresses used on the Registration Form will be the email addresses all correspondence is sent to. It is important for you to monitor your emails closer to the time the course is due to begin. PLEASE - we need an email address and mobile number for the CANDIDATE registered for the course. This is needed so the CANDIDATE can set up and gain access to their E-learning. FOR CANDIDATES U'18, PARENTS/GUARDIANS WILL BE INCLUDED IN ALL CORRESPONDENCE 
    • A Zoom Induction meeting regarding how to access your members area and e-learning will be held on Thursday 15 January 2026 from 5.00pm - 6.00pm.  It is essential for all candidates to attend.  Parents are welcome to attend the meeting.
    • Once the course registration closes Friday 2 January 2026., further instructions will be sent to all candidates. 
    • A Training Enrolment form will be emailed to you. Please complete and return via email prior to Day 1 of the course.
    • Days 1, 2 and 3 are training days. Day 4 is assessment day.
    • If you are a Current Financial Member (2025-2026 season) of a Surf Club, you must have access to your members area. CANDIDATES will need to use their own, individual SLS Members Area login details to access the SLS Members Area, eLearning platform or SLS mobile applications. If candidates are part of a family group they will still need to create their own Members Area login so that learning and assessment is recorded against the correct member. 
    • The Zoom Induction call will assist you if you are having issues enrolling into the e-Learning component of the course. By Day 1 of the course, you must have set up your members area and started your e-Learning theory components. Your e-Learning must be completed, and your Certificate of Completion sighted by your trainers no later than by the morning before assessment day.

     FINANCIAL CLUB MEMBERS

    • The cost of the Bronze Medallion or SRC Course is $400.00.
    • The cost of the SRC to Bronze Transition Course is $350.00. PLEASE NOTE THERE ARE PRE-REQUISITES REQUIRED IN ORDER TO ENROL IN THIS COURSE. PLEASE ENSURE YOU FULFIL ALL REQUIREMENTS (SURFGUARD REFLECTIVE). OTHERWISE YOU WILL NEED TO DO THE COMPLETE BRONZE MEDALLION COURSE

    NON-FINANCIAL CLUB MEMBERS

    • The cost of the Bronze Medallion or SRC Course is $600.00. Non-financial candidates will be joined to the SNB Surf Life Saving School in order to set up their members area and gain access to their E-learning. This will be setup for you to access prior to the Zoom Induction meeting. 

     

    • Our water training sessions could last for up to 3 hours. It is highly recommended you wear a wetsuit or thermal rash vest. A wetsuit can also be worn for your pre-requisite swim.

     

    • There is no timetable for the course. Both dry and wet components are done each day. The order depends on the surf conditions. If for some reason, you need to arrive late or leave early on one of the training days, there will be no time to make up the content you have missed. Therefore, it is imperative you are able to attend all days in their entirety. 

     

    • If a candidate is deemed Not Yet Competent (NYC) in any particular assessment element, then the candidate will have to attend a Central Venue Assessment to be assessed on the element deemed NYC. This could be done with the assistance of the Chief Training Officer from their club.

     

    • Candidates deemed not ready for assessment, will not be put forward for assessment until they are deemed ready with additional training.

     

    • If you are completing this registration form on behalf of someone else, PLEASE relay all of the above information to them. PLEASE ALSO MAKE NOTE OF THE PRE-REQUISITE SWIM DATE YOU CHOOSE. NO REMINDER EMAILS WILL BE SENT.

     

    CANCELLATION POLICY: SNB SURF LIFE SAVING SCHOOL

    Please note, to obtain a full refund of the course registration fee, you will need to provide notification that you are unable to attend NO LATER than WESNESDAY 7 January 2026: slss@surflifesaving.net.au or 9913 8066

     

    A minimum of 10 candidates is required for the course to proceed. If for some reason we are unable to get 10 candidates and cancel the course, a full refund will be given to all registered.

    PLEASE CONSIDER WHETHER THE INTENSIVE COURSE FORMAT IS SUITABLE FOR YOUR CURRENT SKILL LEVEL. IT IS EXTREMELY FAST PACED WITH VERY LITTLE TIME TO PRACTICE NEW SKILLS OR BUILD THE FITNESS NEEDED TO ACHIEVE THE OUTCOMES REQUIRED TO OBTAIN THESE AWARDS.

     

     

  • BRONZE MEDALLION - WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

    By the end of this course, you should be able to: 

    1. apply knowledge of the surf environment including hazards and surf conditions

    2. apply surf skills and techniques for self-survival in the water while negotiating prevailing surf conditions with or without a flotation device

    3. prepare for and respond to a rescue with appropriate rescue and personal protective equipment

    4. participate in assessing a rescue scene

    5. safely perform a rescue using appropriate equipment (tube and board) and rescue techniques while following Surf Life Saving procedures

    6. conclude rescue operations in line with Surf Life Saving policies and procedures

    7. safely use Surf Life Saving communications systems and radio equipment to support communications consistent with Surf Life Saving policies and procedures

    8. apply fault-finding techniques and maintain Surf Life Saving radio equipment

    9. respond to an emergency situation requiring cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)

    10. perform a primary victim assessment including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and use of an automated external defibrillator (AED)

    11. respond to an emergency situation requiring first aid

    12. perform a secondary victim assessment and apply appropriate first aid procedures

    13. identify and manage victims with a suspected spinal cord injury

    14. accurately report and convey first aid incident details to emergency response services while maintaining confidentiality of records and information in line with statutory and Surf Life Saving policies

    15. communicate effectively using verbal and non-verbal communication techniques in line with Surf Life Saving policies and procedures

    16. give, receive and act upon instructions within an agreed timeframe and to meet Surf Life Saving needs

    17. take part in group discussions and informal meetings in a constructive way to facilitate Surf Life Saving outcomes

    18. prepare and process routine written correspondence notes and records in line with Surf Life Saving policies and procedures

    19. contribute to team activities to ensure they are completed to required standard within required timeframes and in accordance with organisational policies and procedures

    20. share knowledge and information with team members and Surf Life Saving committees to enable efficient completion of tasks in accordance with the Surf Life Saving's policies and procedures

    21. give and receive support and feedback to/from team members and Surf Life Saving committees

    22. manage and maintain your own work effectiveness

    23. develop and maintain your own expertise

    24. promote cooperation and contribute to improving Surf Life Saving and quality of outcomes

    25. follow Surf Life Saving procedures for hazard identification and risk control

    INTENSIVE SRC to BRONZE TRANSITION COURSE CHECKLIST

     
    All Candidates MUST:

    complete a pre-requisite 400m swim in 9 minutes or less.

    be 15 years of age at the date of assessment.

    have successfully completed their annual proficiency for the current season (SRC Proficiency Expiry Date 31/12/2026), including Assessment Task 7 Board Rescue Scenario (Surfguard Reflective). If you are unsure, please contact your Surf Club Representative for confirmation prior to registering.

    have completed a minimum of 10 patrolling hours as a qualified SRC award holder within the last 12 months (Surfguard reflective). If you are unsure, please contact your Surf Club for confirmation prior to registering.

    PLEASE NOTE: Water safety hours do not count as patrol hours.

    completed the SRC less than 3 years prior to commencing this training program.

  • Surf Rescue Certificate (SRC) - WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

    By the end of this course, you should be able to:
