  • Mandatory Five-Year Review Form

  • Welcome to the Mandatory Five-Year Review Form

This form is part of the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) process operationalized by SBTi Services Limited to ensure that your company’s validated targets remain aligned with the latest SBTi Criteria and Standards. All companies with approved targets are required to complete this review every five years to maintain an active status on the SBTi Target Dashboard. Please note that only targets deviating from the latest SBTi Criteria and Standards would need to proceed through the update process, which is required 12 months from the trigger date.

To begin completing the questions below, please first select your company by entering your SBTi ID. This unique identifier ensures that your responses are correctly linked to your validated targets and company record. You can find your SBTi ID on the SBTi Target Dashboard by searching for your company name.

Please note: The auto-complete function below is only enabled for companies whose Mandatory Five-Year Review is currently due. Companies that are not yet within their review window will not be able to locate their SBTi ID using the auto-complete.

The trigger date begins at the end of the month, five years after either:

    • the initial validation publication of one or more targets, or
    • the most recent complete update of scope 1, 2, and 3 targets.

If you believe your trigger date has been reached but you are unable to locate your SBTi ID in the field below, please contact the SBTi Services team at targetstatus@sbtiservices.com for assistance. This will ensure that your review status is verified and any technical issues are promptly resolved.

For further details on timing, requirements, and process, please consult the official Mandatory Five-Year Review Guidance.

  • Important: We encourage all companies to create a Validation Portal account as the validation process now takes place exclusively inside the Portal. A Portal account is required for future target validation, public account details updates, and contact list management. For guidance on completing the new entity Registration Form in the portal, please consult this tutorial, along with the SOP for Entities Registration.

If your company already has a Portal account, we will contact the individuals listed there. If your company does not yet have a Portal account, we will use the contact information provided in this form. Please note that if a Portal account exists, we will not add or update contacts based on this form submission.

  • Triggers - Significant Changes & Target Recalculation

  • According to the SBTi Criteria Assessment Indicators (NT C27), companies must recalculate and revalidate their targets whenever significant changes occur that could compromise the validity of an existing target. The following changes trigger recalculation:

    • Scope 3 emissions increase to 40% or more of total aggregated scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions. This applies to companies that were below the 40% threshold at the time of target validation and subsequently exceed the 40% threshold.
    • Changes in the consolidation approach chosen for the GHG inventory.
    • Significant changes in exclusions within the inventory or target boundary.
    • Major structural changes such as acquisitions, divestitures, mergers, insourcing/outsourcing, or shifts in goods and service offerings.
    • Adjustments to data sources or calculation methodologies that materially affect base year emissions or target boundary emissions (e.g., discovery of significant errors or cumulative errors).
    • Other significant changes to projections or assumptions used in setting science-based targets.

Companies must apply a significance threshold of 5%:

    • A change of 5% in total base year emissions triggers recalculation of the base year.
    • A change of 5% or more in emissions covered within a target boundary triggers recalculation of the target.

If such changes occur and the target no longer meets SBTi Criteria, the company must resubmit targets under the most recent applicable criteria.
