Awards of Excellence: Chapters 2026
  • Awards of Excellence: Chapters

  • The Val Bias/Todd Smith Innovation in Camp Award, and the Ziggy Douglas Youth Programming Award are given to chapters who demonstrate innovation in programming in a way that honors the spirit of those for whom the awards are named. Before we get started, a few things to keep in mind:

    1. This award is for programs that took place in 2025.

    2. Family camps are not eligible for the Val Bias/Todd Smith Innovation in Camp Award.

    3. You can submit  your chapter for both awards, but you will need to fill out a new form for each submission.

    4. The form must be completed in its entirety to be considered.

    5. You can save your progress and return, but we recommend completing the form all at once. Once the form is submitted, you will not be able to edit it.

    6. Winners will be notified in July 2026.

Val Bias and Todd Smith Innovation in Camp Award
Camp is a core part of the bleeding disorders community, with kids and teens each year all across the country trying something new, connecting with other kids like them, learning to be independent and more knowledgeable about their bleeding disorder, and mostly having a lot of fun. To honor that, the Val Bias and Todd Smith Innovation in Camp Award will go to a chapter that created and delivered new and creative programming at camp the previous summer to help youth feel empowered and to grow in their independence. The chapter winner will receive a $1000 award that will be announced at BDC’s Award Ceremony.

    Ziggy Douglas Youth Programming Award
This award goes to chapters who champion, develop, and support the spirit of youth. Donald “Ziggy” Douglas was the Executive Director of the Hawaii Chapter of NBDF, who this community sadly lost far too soon. Ziggy's passion and life work centered around providing youth with the tools they need to thrive. This award honors Ziggy's legacy by awarding chapters that prioritize the next generation of leaders in the bleeding disorders community. The winner will receive $1,000 to put toward youth programming.
