  • Master Trainer Program:  What am I applying for?

    Master Trainers will be certified to train facilitators to implement Food Smarts kids and adults community workshops.

    Please complete this this application by January 23, 2026.  Your application will be reviewed for Master Trainer eligibility.  If selected, you will join an in-depth program to prepare you for training others.  Note, that this program is free for CalFresh Healthy Living (CFHL) funded applicants. 

    Who is eligible to become a Master Trainer?

    • Master Trainer applicants must have completed the Food Smarts Facilitator Training.
    • Master Trainer applicants must have run at least two series of Food Smarts community workshops (or six single sessions), which could be for either kids or adults.
    • Master Trainer applicants who supervisor educators but do not facilitate themselves may be elgible on a case-by-case basis and are encouraged to apply.
    • After you submit this application, Leah's Pantry will set up a qualification call to ensure that this opportunity aligns with your goals.
    • (Optional) Applicants are encouraged to submit a letter of support from their supervisor or organization. 

    What do I need to do to become certified?

    • Actively participate in three 2-hour Zoom sessions (see schedule below). Master Trainers must attend all Zoom sessions live. If you have a date conflict, you must discuss this with Leah's Pantry in advance. You may be encouraged to wait for the next Master Trainer program.
    • Complete six to seven hours of self-paced work (e.g., videos, activities, reading), spread out before each Zoom session.
    • To maintain your certification, Master Trainers must lead at least one Food Smarts Facilitator training a year or attend another Master Trainer training (offerd twice per year).

    What support will Master Trainers receive to run Food Smarts Facilitator trainings?

    • Use of Leah's Pantry training videos and TalentLMS, our online training platform, for the self-paced portion of the Food Smarts training
    • Calls with Leah's Pantry and all certified Food Smarts Master Trainers
    • As-needed technical assistance
    • Updates on the latest program developments, including updated training material as available
    • Opportunities to connect with other Master Trainers

    After submitting your application, Leah's Pantry will contact you to schedule a qualifying call to discuss your application.  If accepted into the program, you will receive details and access to our online training platform, TalentLMS, starting late January.

  • Food Smarts Master Trainer Zoom Schedule and Training Expectations

    Master Trainers must attend all Zoom sessions live.  If you have a date conflict, you must discuss this with Leah's Pantry in advance. You may be encouraged to wait for the next Master Trainer program. Additionally, there will be about 120 minutes of self-paced work prior to each Zoom session.

    During the training, you will:

    • Learn how to use provided materials to train others (virtually or in-person) to run Food Smarts workshops. 
    • Practice using our online learning platform to host your own trainings.
    • Develop skills to facilitate dynamic live training sessions that promote participant involvement and learning.
    • Learn to modify the Food Smarts curriculum to meet the diverse needs of various audiences.
