Survival Bloc: NYC Hub Member Application

Survival Bloc is a national, BIPCO-led climate survival network building movement infrastructure the survive the climate crisis. With a growing coalition of over 30+ movement organizations and grassroots groups, and 100+ leaders nationwide, we are building the movement infrastructure to organize "survival programs", leadership and climate resiliency trainings, and forge together strategies to divest from the fossil fuel industry. Since 2023, our network has been able to activate over 1,000+ leaders across the U.S and Puerto Rico through our climate survival framework and programming, launch chapters and survival programs in New York City and Kentucky, and build a interregional and cross-sectoral network that is mobilized for movement building and crisis purposes. Survival Bloc NYC is our latest hub/chapter, an intersectional coalition of leaders, movement organizations, grassroots groups, and more on a mission to unite the five boroughs through mutual aid, neighborhood defense, and disaster resilience organizing. This climate survival hub was envisioned by BIPOC, directly impacted climate justice organizers are concerned with power-building, decentralizing our organizing away from the non-profit industrial complex, and strengthening disaster resiliency efforts on a neighborhood/hyper-local level. On the heels of Mamdani's recent historical mayoral win (an incredible success for socialism), this provides incredible momentum to create the type of community infrastructure that protects and defends everyday New Yorkers from climate disasters and increased criminalization. As the biggest city and cultural epicenter of the world, New York City will now either become a target by bigots and the billionaire class, or a people-powered example of what it means to organize from a place of self-determination, build political leverage in an era of fascism, and create community alternatives for climate resiliency. Survival Bloc NYC is determined to make this a reality. We are seeking community organizers, movement groups, grassroots groups, mutual aid collectives, business cooperatives, and more to join us in our mission. Another world is possible!

We understand that many of us will be working on various organizing projects as we respond to stronger, more frequent disasters, social and economic crises in our communities, and more. Our collective capacities are always shifting. We’ve designed a color system for leaders or organizations to assess how they'd like to engage within the network based on these shifts. Our network leaders will make sure to ask where you are on the spectrum on a quarterly basis, and if there's any formal of informal ways that our network could be of support.
