4.5 Nominations from the Floor – Nominations for elections of a Director will only be accepted from the floor if there is no candidate identified for a position.
Board Commitment
The OWA Executive Board operates as a Managing Board — a hybrid model that bridges strategic governance with hands-on execution. Directors serve in both an operational and a governance capacity, acting as organizational stewards while also stepping out of the boardroom to champion high-priority growth initiatives alongside OWA's staff and volunteers.
Board positions typically require a time commitment of 5–7 hours per week. At minimum, there are 9 meetings per year and, on average, with regular emails between meetings to review, comment on, or action, in addition to committee and staff meetings, project leadership, and internal and external communication.
Please consider the time you have available prior to submitting your name.
Position Descriptions
Each description reflects the duties of the office under the OWA By-laws (s. 5.2) together with the position's focus for the 2026–2028 term, drawn from OWA's 2025–2028 Strategic Plan and 2026–2027 Operational Plan that make up a key part of our alignment with Ministry of Sport priorities and objectives for use of our funding.
In many cases, the ongoing duties set out in the by-laws are handled day-to-day by OWA's paid contractors and volunteers, while board members focus is oversight, support, and operational improvement. The priority project areas that shape each position's term are typically led by the board members themselves, often working alongside staff, volunteers, and one another.
Vice President Administration -
The Vice President Administration manages correspondence, maintains the Corporation's records and documents, ensures meeting notices and minutes are prepared, and oversees internal and external communications. They also manage membership processing — reviewing applications, handling related funds, and providing membership data to the Board — and maintain the Corporation's computer systems and online presence, supported by administrative staff or volunteers as needed, while contributing to policy review and development across the portfolio. Over the 2026–2028 term, the role will focus on growing membership and participation, strengthening sponsorship, fundraising, and community engagement, and advancing OWA's communications and member engagement, including leadership and oversight of the Community Development Committee.
Vice President Operations -
The Vice President Operations oversees day-to-day sport development programming across the organization, including the competition calendar and other opportunities such as training camps and workshops. They support athlete and coach pathway operations, including qualification processes and broader development opportunities, and may also oversee human resources and contribute to policy review and development across the portfolio. Over the 2026–2028 term, the role will focus on the oversight and support of the High Performance Committee and the policies and project areas within its purview — such as Quest for Gold and team selection — as well as strengthening Safe Sport compliance, advancing athlete and coach development, and improving competition programming and club hosting capacity across Ontario.
Vice President Finance -
The Vice President Finance manages the financial operation of the Corporation by keeping full and accurate books of account, preparing annual statements of the Corporation's finances for the Annual Meeting, and issuing cheques on behalf of the Board, while contributing to policy review and development in financial areas. Over the 2026–2028 term, the role will focus on strengthening budget planning and tracking across project areas, bookkeeping and financial procedures, and supporting OWA's long-term financial sustainability and revenue diversification.
