COURSE DESCRIPTION:
A safety-first introductory course that teaches safe handgun handling, legal/ethical responsibilities, basic shooting fundamentals, and supervised live-fire practice. Designed for adults with little or no prior handgun experience.
Minors over the age of 14 can take the course with a parent/guardian in attendance as well. Emphasis is on safety, responsible ownership, and competent range behavior.
OBJECTIVES:
By course end, students will be able to:
- Explain and apply the four primary rules of firearm safety and safe storage/transport practices.
- Identify handgun parts, nomenclature, basic operation, and common ammunition types.
- Perform safe loading and unloading, as well as basic malfunction recognition, in a controlled environment.
- Demonstrate fundamental marksmanship skills (stance, grip, sight alignment, trigger control) in dry-fire and live-fire settings.
- Conduct themselves safely on the range and follow range commands and protocols.
- Understand basic legal/ethical responsibilities related to handgun ownership and use.

Mix classroom + extended range time

PREREQUISITES AND ADMINISTRATIVE REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum age: 18 or older. 14 or older with a parent/guardian also in attendance.
Signed waiver/liability release and range rules acknowledgement
EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENT:
Handgun in good mechanical condition (or range loaner)
Minimum 250 rounds
Eye & ear protection
Closed-toe shoes, long pants recommended
Optional: holster (belt-mounted, strong side if using holster)
