Held over five workshop sessions, the Expert Witness Workshops are designed to provide practical training on presenting expert evidence in the Land Court.
Using practical examples and working in small groups, participants will receive personalised training and instruction from a panel of legal professionals and experienced expert witnesses. The objective of these workshops is to assist those interested in becoming expert witnesses in the future.
These workshops will cover all aspects of being an expert witness, including:
- an overview of the court process,
- experts' duty to the court,
- the role of experts,
- an overview of the rules of evidence,
- practical tips for cross examination,
- joint expert meetings and reports,
- participation in a CMEE, and
- an understanding of participating in a Hearing process.
Suitability of Participants
Participants will have the benefit of a mentor expert in their area of expertise and the course will culminate in a mock Court hearing before a Member of the Land Court. Due to the structure of the workshops, QELA will review EOIs received to create teams of similar area of practice.
- Participants should be currently employed in a consulting field.
- Participants should have 5+ years post graduate experience in their chosen field.
- No previous Court experience is necessary.
Due to limited places and the need to generate teams, preference will be provided to QELA members.

- Workshop 1 – Held in the Land Court Brisbane - Wednesday, 22nd July 2026
- Workshop 2 – Debrief and Meetings of experts - Wednesday, 5th August 2026 - Time and location to be coordinated by participants and their mentors.
- Workshop 3 – Held in the Land Court: CMEE Conference - Wednesday, 19th August 2026 -Time and location to be coordinated by participants and their mentors.
- Workshop 4 – JER Debrief and Discussion - Wednesday, 7th October 2026 -Time and location to be coordinated by participants and their mentors.
- Workshop 5 – Mock Trial held in the Land Court Brisbane - Wednesday 21st October 2026. Followed by Dinner - venue TBA.
As a participant, under the guidance of a mentor, you will be required to produce a Joint Expert Report. Please note the time commitment is approximately 10-20 hours to produce this report (in addition to attendance at the workshops above).
Cost
The total registration fee includes five workshops, workshop materials, dinner on the final workshop evening, and GST.
- $750 per person for members.
- $1,050 per person for non members.
- $1,035 Workshop and Individual QELA Membership package (12 month membership).
