National Trails Register
Sport Ireland maintains the National Trails Register to ensure that recreational trails across Ireland meet consistent, high-quality standards. These criteria provide a benchmark for trail development and management, giving confidence to trail developers, funders, and the public. By applying these standards, Sport Ireland promotes safe, sustainable, and enjoyable access to Ireland’s outdoors while protecting the environment and supporting landowner cooperation.

Trails that meet the criteria can be listed on the National Trails Register, included on the Sport Ireland Outdoors website, and may be eligible for public liability insurance under the National Trails Insurance Policy. This application form allows Trail Management Organisations to propose new trails for inclusion, ensuring they align with national expectations and can be properly assessed and supported.

Section 2: Trail Details
Trail details provided in this application will help determine the cost of the registration inspection. Once a trail is successfully registered, its information will be published on the Sport Ireland Outdoors website.

Please complete the 'Customer Form' (see Appendix 1 below) and attach it when submitting your application. An invoice will be issued to the details provided once the inspection has been completed.
