  • WRT WINTER FILM SERIES WITH RABBI BLAKE

    THE JEWISH MOTHER IN CINEMA

Join Rabbi Blake as we continue our winter tradition of screening films of Jewish interest, followed by probing conversation. This winter, we will explore the character of the Jewish mother in cinema, unpacking both the stereotypes and the subversive messages depicted on screen.

Bring a friend and we will bring the movie, snacks, and beverages. All programs begin at 2:00 pm at WRT. Although there is no charge for these events, you must register separately for each film you plan to attend.

December 14, 2pm:  Goodbye, Columbus (1969): Based on the groundbreaking novella by Philip Roth (1959), Goodbye, Columbus introduces us to many of the stereotypical associations with Jewish Mothers. How did these register at the time? How do we understand them today?
