Statement of Purpose

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is a private, not-for-profit organization whose purpose is to provide assistance and support through established programs in local communities throughout the world.

Scholarship Information

The Sacramento Alumnae Chapter awards annual scholarships for minority students pursuing higher education at a two or four-year institution. An individual is eligible to apply if he or she meets the eligibility criteria. The scholarship amounts will vary depending on individual merit and needs. All applications are evaluated based on a complete application and interview, which are used to determine academic performance, financial need, and community & cultural involvement. Eligibility Requirements
Eligibility Requirements:
- Black, African American, or of African descent
- Greater Sacramento area resident
- Graduating High School Student, Single Head of Household, or Matriculating College Student pursing Associates or Bachelors degree
- Currently attending, accepted, applied or applying to an accredited two or four-year college/university for the Fall of 2026
- Minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale
- Proven participation in community service or volunteer activities
- Applicant must attend an interview
Disclaimer: Relatives by blood, marriage or adoption of members of Sacramento Alumnae Chapter - Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated are NOT eligible to apply for chapter scholarships, however, there may be other scholarships available.

- An official transcript must be uploaded or sent directly from school’s registrar office to the email or mailing address by FRIDAY - March 27, 2026
- Two (2) letters of recommendation from a teacher, principal, counselor, community leader, minister, or employer
- A signed photo release (signed by parent/guardian)
- Academic Standing Form (completed by counselors or school registrar)
- Headshot or Senior portrait (300dpi+ jpg or tiff; size not to exceed 4”x6”)
- A typed, double-spaced essay of no more than 1,000 words:
