  • 🌿 WEAT-NTS Scholarship Information

The North Texas Section of the Water Environment Association of Texas (WEAT-NTS) is a section of WEAT, which is a Member Association of the Water Environment Federation. Like its parent organizations, WEAT-NTS is dedicated to advancing both fundamental and practical knowledge related to the nature, collection, treatment, and reclamation of domestic and industrial wastes, as well as the environmental dispersion of these wastes.

Additional goals include advancing knowledge in the evaluation, design, construction, operation, and management of water and wastewater systems; educating the public; and promoting sound environmental legislation. In recognition of these goals, WEAT-NTS offers this scholarship to students pursuing an education and career that will further this mission.

The WEAT-NTS Scholarship was established in 1996 with an initial endowment from funds developed by the North Texas Section. This endowment was built over several years through the efforts of officers and volunteers who organized annual seminars to educate members about issues and regulations affecting the profession. Attendance fees and sponsorships from these seminars provided the initial funding for the scholarship.

Ongoing annual seminars, donations, and investment growth continue to provide funding for this scholarship.

Scholarship assistance is paid in two installments: 50% of the total award for the fall semester and 50% for the spring semester.

To receive the spring semester payment, recipients must:

    • Submit official copies of their fall semester transcripts to WEAT-NTS, and
    • Provide a one-page typewritten summary of their fall semester experiences and goals for the spring semester.

Recipients are required to maintain a 3.0 GPA (unless a specific exemption is granted by the Scholarship Committee) and must be considered either a full-time student (generally enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester) or a part-time student (generally enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours per semester).

    📋 WEAT-NTS Scholarship Selection Criteria

The Scholarship Committee will use the following criteria when selecting scholarship recipients:

    • Preference will be given to students who are WEAT-NTS members or the children/dependents of WEAT-NTS members.
